Course Curriculum Overview

4

My specific aspects to choose english hons course because i have a very keen interest in literature and English language from the very beginning,so i thought to go with my interest further in my life also i want to become an English professor so it'll be very easy for me to start from the beginning and choose this course. This course has a wide variety of novels and stories which makes me even more critical and creative thinker which also helps me in my real world. As i had mentioned earlier that i want to pursue english language further in my academics so I'll be mucj easy if i clear my base from beginning. As of now i don't think there's need to change in my course and curriculum, the teaching methods and styles of my professors is very good and understanding. If i talk about exams our college conduct semester exams every 6 months and if one attended all the lectures and classes of the subject it'll be very easy to score because in our class professor makes us understand the concept by making flow charts and providing questions related to the topic to solve. If one attend all the classes it'll be very much easy to score in exams because the level of exam is average and there are options in each question so that students can choose between the questions.

Placement Experience

3

From the 4th semester, students become eligible for the campus placement. As of now I'm in 1st semester so don't know much about the companies visited and offers and all but i hear it from a senior that highest package is 15 lakh per annum. As my degree is english hons so no of placement is very low in campus but there are very job offers which we get from companies like content writing, receptionist and speaking and communication. My plan after getting this degree is i have to do masters in english literature and then phd after that i will become professor in this language or course

Fees and Financial Aid

My course is English hons and the fee for one year is 14150 ,my category is general, also they take examination fees at the time of semester exams that is 1110 in each semester before exams. For the reserved category the fee structure is same as unreserved. They have to pay the same fees as us.My one batchmate is from ladakh and she got an admission in DU but she is paying same fees as me. No,There is no scholarship on the basis of merit but there's a scholarship for the basis of incom of the guardian,if he/she from weak background they have to fill a form called as scholarship form and then they have to submit the necessary documents like income certificate and all then they got some money from the University.

Campus Life

4

The name of our annual event or fest is tatva and it is held in February every year.along with the fest our college also held some programs like diwali mela, food fest, cultural fest and so on. The library of our college is very good,it has all the necessary books and journals,it also has a peaceful and calm environment which make it easy to focus and understand. The classroom are also in a good condition but the no of classes are very less like there are two buildings as i had mentioned earlier but in old building the condition of classes are average and in new building the no of classes are very less. Sports facilities like cricket, badminton and football are also there and students who are interested in the sports participate in it.we have a very huge ground for the sports and game in which various competitions are held between colleges and universities. If i talk about societies, there are maximum 70 societies in our college including theatre, dance, photography, singing and many more it all run by students only with a main society called reverie,it manages all the cultural society and organise all the events of college.

Admission

I had applied for DU and jamia millia islamia for the course of English hons,i got confirmed admission in both the university but i had choose DU over jamia because it is far away from my home and the the distance is 20 km so i chose DU. No i didn't get rejected from any universities i have cleared both the entrance and got my name in the list but as i mentioned earlier that because of travel and distance from my home i choose DU over jamia. If i talk about my admission process and experience it is very time taking and hectic. After completing my 12th examination i got to know that i have to give an entrance for the admission in Delhi University, the time we get to prepare for the entrance is one month,i had prepared for the exam through online platform like Adda 24 7,they provided me guidance and study material related to the exams, the eligibility criteria for my course is i have to choose english as a subject and 3 more subjects which i had studied in class 12th so i chose English as a language and political science, history and home science as a domain subject. After that i gave my entrance known as cuet ug the in which one paper consists of 200 marks so as i had given 4 paper my marks are out of 800 in which i got 674 marks and got south campus college that is college of vocational studies. In the cuet exams the most preferred course is BCom hons and english hons and the cutoff of english hons is above 750 out of 800. My overall experience is quite good, everything done by online process without any difficulty and problems.

Faculty

The faculty of our college is quite good and educated, if i talk about my English department the ratio of professors are 30:70 in which 30% are male faculty and 70% are female faculty. The faculty of my department that is English literature is quite friendly and helpful. They do different kinds of things to make us understand about the concept or topic. For example: they conduct plays and webinars in college seminar hall. I like all my faculty members including adarsh sir, savita mam, tripti mam, vasundhara mam, subodh sir and Priyanka mam, they all are fabulous. The best faculties in our college is English department professors. As i am new in the college so i have not met many teachers so can't judge and can't able to give any reason for not liking them. They all are well educated and my favourite. There are semester exams every 6 months for 4 year course one should give 8 semester exams and for 3 yr course 6 semester exams are there. The difficulty level of the exam is average and quite good to solve. The marking scheme of the exams is based on the credit like for example for there are 22 credit in each semester. If i talk about my course that is english hons,i have three core subjects which have 4 credit each and 4 minor subject including sec which has 2 credit, vac has 2 credit, aec has 2 credit and last GE has 4 credit. For 4 credit subject the theory exam is of 90 marks and practical is of 70 marks which is in hands of our teachers For 2 credit subject the theory exam is of 30 marks and practical is of 50 marks that makes it total of 80 marks. Student get their results after each semester is on sgpa and when the course is completed they get total cgpa. In our department that is english school can easily score marks because of teachers teaching methods. the course curriculum is very relevant according to our program.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
