Course Curriculum Overview

4

It is a good course. I went for it mainly because I am preparing for UPSC CSE (pretty common around here). In that context the course is helpful, and also for those aiming to enter research, academia, museology, archaeology etc. However there are not many placement opportunities and for most it would be better to pursue masters later on. Teaching methods are inclusive, both english and hindi medium students can comfortably study. However both students and faculties have some complaints regarding the curriculum changes under NEP such as the sequence of courses in each sem.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am from general category with no scholarship/ aid. The tuition fee per year is roughly 14k paid annually and hostel fee is around 27-28k per semester paid twice an year. Every semester we have to pay an examination fee which is around 1200 (depends upon your course selection but is roughly around this figure). The fees does not largely increase (hostel fees did increase in lieu of some upgrades but we complained against it and got a reduction in the following sem). So annually we pay approximately 70k for hostel+college tuition. We get regular info and updates about scholarships, there are quite a few of them available for economically weaker sections, only girl child, etc.

Campus Life

5

Our annual fest is called tempest, and it takes place in April. Literally the most fun event of the year. Each department and society also has its own fest separately, taking place in the even semesters. Odd semesters have freshers, Raas (our garba night) and some society fests (animal welfare soc's Aavyali). We really do have the best library. The classrooms are better in the science block than the main block. Sports are pretty good and they do organise events occassionally for non sports dept students too. A lot of societies are there for you to choose from- dance, dramatics, debating, singing, art, fasion...the list is endless.

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostel is pretty affordable as compared to other colleges. The food is not that good honestly but you get used to it. We also have a pantry on each floor so you can also cook. The rooms are double or quadruple occupancy (2/4 seater) with common washrooms. We do not have ac/coolers in the rooms neither can you bring your own. Wifi depends upon your room location but works well in common rooms and study room. The seats are allotted on a merit basis.

Admission

My Cuet score was 799.64, so I technically would have gotten into all colleges I applied for, like Hindu, St Stephens etc. My prefered courses were history, political science and english hons. The cut off varies a lot for different categories and for different courses. I chose Miranda because it was almost my dream college. NIRF Rank 1 (at that time), pretty campus, good reputation, alumni, and it being an all girls' college were my reasons to choose it over others. In cuet i appeared for history, political science, economics, and english.

Faculty

4

I find the faculty to be great. Really. All of those who have taught me have been amazing and approachable, and I find the course curriculum to be pretty interesting. Go for it only if you have interest in history though. It is very easy to pass the exams too, however we must keep in mind it is a tier 1 du college so its a bunch of sharp minds together. I have seen some department students be quite competitive. We have 7 courses in the 1st and 2nd year of which 3 are core (from the course that you choose) 1 general elective, 1 vac 1 sec and 1 aec (details can be checked from du website regarding these).

Interview Experience

5

No GD, interview. Only CUET result based admission. Other criterias for admission can be through quotas- sports or co-curricular (music, dance, drama etc). Check out the du website to know more about it.

Night Life

5

College looks really beautiful after sunset (perks of being a hostel student, you get to roam around until much later). The societies also work till pretty late. We have 4 canteens and all are pretty decent. The open gym is open to all but not the closed gym- that's only for sports students. You can ask for a basketball or Badminton rackets from the sports dept to play using your college id. Hostel has no in-out timings, you just need to maintain entries in the guard register that's all. Proximity to metro, kamla nagar, hudson lane etc makes it a convenient location to live in.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
