Best time of my life

Actually I wanted to choose a course which will help in my UPSC preparation so I chose BA programme with History and Philosophy. Since it was Arts course, it gave us an i sight to the things which was not possible with other courses like historical evolution and insights into Philosophical world. One can make a career in academics if they want. However, they do not hold as much professional value as compared to other professional courses I can say. Teaxhing curriculum was normal, first classes, they will explain and teach things, then some assignments ans readings for a better understanding and then finally exams. We were given a 10 day something lon break before exams for the preparation which used to be a game changer since students generally take time for exploring the college life in the mean time. So it exam break was really helpful. Difficult level for exam was moderate. It was more about resilience and discipline one can show. With some basic understanding and moderate level of efforts and previous year question analysis one can score good marks. However, if you are somone with interest in academia then, it'll be a blessing to be here and study variety of thing starting from your reading material to vast resourcses in the library with access to so many paid and upaid journals and books.

Since i was clear from the start that I have to make a career in civil services so I did not indulge in internships. However, i ised to attend seminars, talks and group discussions. So i know there were opportunities available if you are active and willing to work. I hope whosoever opts for this college will have a great time and the great opportunities. Wish you the very best.

Since I am from Arts deparemt, there were not much options and I did not sit in the placements I cannot say much about it here. Although there were seminars related to differents fellowship options such as Gandhi fellowship, Texah for India. Some people from my department got in them and they are doing fine as of now so yes there are option once your are in the campus you'll get to know about them.

I got admission in Miranda House in the year 2017. At that I paid ~?12000/year for as college fees. Althought could not secure a seat in college hostel, fortunately i secured one in university hostel which is outside the college campus but very beautiful and comparatively much affordable and great facilities as compared to PGs and hostels in Delhi. For hostel i paid around ~?90,000/year. I am not aware of the fees paid by other students as in coming from different categories. I am also not aware of the division of fees, like what amount went to which fund. Yes, there were some options for scholarships and financial aid available for students. Office admin was really helpful with these things. First they used to inform about things and then guide students for the same. There were options for students with some Disability as well. Both campus and the administration was student friendly in monetary terms, it was not too costly actually really affordable as compared to outside. Living in Delhi is really expensive but a good and affordable college with an affordable hostel makes it much easier to survive.

Life apart academics was really colorful at the college. There usually used to be different talks goings on from different departments and you can choose to be a part of any of them. Different societies held their selection processes right after admission process closes so it gets started from the beginning only and when you are a part of them your life gets busy in a good way. I joined the Taekwondo team even after coming from non sports quota so it was quite new experience. I got the chance and joined it. taekwondo training used to be the best part of my day. It was in the morning before the classes begins. Although for some other societies they used to manage their preparation and everything depending on the classes as per the schedule. So yes it was difficult for some to manage since timetable could not be changed as per different societies. For people coming from sports background they can check for their sports ans apply for sports quota admission as well. Our annual cultural fest is called TEMPEST. It is the most AMAZING time of the year coming around Feb and March. One perk of being in a Miranda was that you can be a part of other college fest easily. You can have a social life outside of college as well since other colleges are nearby and intermingling can give you friends for life as happened in my case. Student life is one of the best in DU. For me that is still the best time of my life. And I still want to go back to that time.

As i got late admission in college and much later in hostel, I had to stay in PG for a month then when the final list of hostel came, i shifted to university common hostel. Firstly about PG. Since campus area in Delhi is a congested place, the availability of place is very less. I rented a AC room with double occupancy at a price of ?12000/person per month in Kamla Nagar which was near my college. Initially it was difficult to adjust in such a small space with no windows or anything with dorect sunlight. Since it was market area so there was no access to park or greenery as well. Food seemed nice Initially but quality deteriorated overtime. We were served 3 meals. Security was also not much, jsut one gaurd bhaiyya for the whole building. When hostle list came i wanted to shift there, pg owner didn't even refund my security amount when i already gave the notice, rent as well. So that was a loss. PG people are not really great here. Coming to hostel time, one of the main reason my college life was this memorable was my hostel. It had all the space including- greenery, open ness, study room, tv room, mess and a whole hostel campus to take a walk or just run when frustrated. In hostel 4 meals were provided, special dinner in a month,cultural nights occasional, one reason why i didn't felt the need to go out at night. Yes there were issues like water ( which is prevalent in whole Delhi and hence in hostel too) next one main issue there was summers, we are not given coolers or AC or even allowed if one wants to get their own. Apart from that it was great experience.

First and primary reqson for chosing Miranda House was the hostility and arrangements that the college provided for the parents and students who were coming there. I did applied to various other colleges but the kind of assistance that i received from the taechers, students and admin was really appreciable. It really convinced me and my parents to get admission there after visiting other colleges as well from the north campus of Delhi University. Eligibily was my marks from class 12th since I applied from the merit based admission process. Till that time there was no UG entrance exam for our colleges. Cutoffs were really high. I almost lost hope that I'll be able to study in DU and that too Miranda I had no hope.But I waited till the 3rd and 4th cutoff, fortunately i found an opportunity and grabbed it. The admission process took just one day. I visited there and got guided by the teachers and volunteers there they were really helpful.

The student to faculty ratio was fine. For me, it didn't felt like an issue. Generally, professors were really kind and understanding, basically really approachable. For me, faculties from Philosophy department they were the sweetest human beings I've ever met. They were the best professors- in terms of imparting education, guiding us in academics and in life too. This scenario is my living example of you can be best at your job and still be the nicest person in the room. Because generally it is said that teachers have to be harsh on their students. It was always like too good to be true moment. Special mention to Simmi Valecha mam for her sweetest gestures like treating her students with something to eat because it used to be an afternoon class and we had to miss our lunch for it. I would not say that I disliked any professors as such but coming across professors from Philo department, i could not like professors from other departments on the same level. But my overall experience in terms of teachers was fortunately really good. There used to be 6 semesters for 3 year BA course. We have to submit assignment for certain weightage (lesser) and give semester exams for the rest which carried around 80% marks. Generally students used to pass (90%) For some unfortuna unfortunate students, there was an option of re exam. Best part was the timing. I mean very punctuql with their schedule. No delays so ot really helps in planning. Course curriculum till that time war relevant and at paar with what i have expected. Coming from science stream I got to study Arts from the faculty of Miranda it was a good experience overall. Although as I changed my stream so I've had my share or bottlenecks. Overall it was good.

Since I am a girl and I studied in a girl's college, Miranda is all girls college. And our classes used to be in day time. Hostel late timings were max by 8pm, so It is a restrictions. I feel this is the not just here but everywhere mostly. Apart from that evening arr also really beautifull. You have so many places around the campus to visit. Delhi in itself has so many historical places to visit. Cultural fests like Jash-e- Rekhta are cherry on top. If you have a frinds group or somone you can trust to roam around with considering the safety aspect, it's fun. My go to place used to be the VC lawn, Campus road even to walk they are very beautiful. Cafes like Bistro, cafe hopping in Majnu ka tila is still my fav. Different cuisines and sweets, best!
