Unpacking Miranda’s college life

The curriculum introduces all the major aspects of the field of Political Science - including political theory, comparative politics, Indian Political Thought, Western Political Philosophy, Global Politics, Public Administration, Indian Colonialism, etc. The curriculum includes essential readings which are seminal works of their respective research area and thus, help prepare students for the real world application of what they study in the classroom. However, most readings are dated a decade ago. It would be better if newer and updated readings could be added to the curriculum.

Our college has its own internships with the Library and a paid internship in the Principal's office. Apart from these, various companies like Uniqlo, Lenskart, etc. offer internship opportunities to students. The stipend varies but is mostly over 5k.

Students are offered internship opportunities as well as job placement opportunities via the College Placement Cell. Packages of upto 20-25 LPA have been offered to students. Students become eligible for some opportunities from second year and for some, in the third year.

The fees is paid on a yearly basis, with students being required to pay Rs. 14,000( inclusive of all fees, excluding lab fees) per year for the course. At the time of admission, a one-time returnable caution fees is paid as well. There are various scholarships and financial aid schemes available to students, based on their financial condition.

The college experience at Miranda House is vibrant and exciting. The college has a club dedicated to each and every area of interest. Joining clubs and being a part of them really helps in building networks and friendships. The Annual Fest , Tempest, is a memorable festival every year.

I applied for Hindu College and LSR. I chose Miranda House because it is a more plural and inclusive college. As an institution, it is not aligned with any particular political ideology and as a Political Science student, I wanted to join a college which allowed me to explore all the different ideologies on the spectrum. I wasn't rejected by any of the colleges because I scored 799.4/800 in CUET. I chose Miranda House over LSR simply because of it being in the North Campus.

The faculty to student ratio is fairly well-balanced. The relationship is also cordial and amiable. Most professors are approachable and are always accessible as well. The course structure followed is the one laid out by the University itself, but professors provide resources beyond what is prescribed by the University. The end semester exams also take place based on the Universitu prescription.

Miranda House hostel doesn't have a curfew time and the night life for hostelers is whatever they want it to be. There are various hangout spots near the campus which are student go-to. The locality near campus is safe.
