30% Rise in Undergraduate Applications from Indian Students to Study at UK Universities: UCAS Report

According to recent undergraduate enrolment figures from the United Kingdom, a huge number of Indian students have enrolled in UK institutions and programmes beginning in September this year, according to TOI. According to official figures, the number of Indian applications submitted for this year's September commencement has increased by 11%. Undergraduate student applications received from India via the UCAS, the UK's common admissions agency for higher education, were over 8,660, nearly double the number of applicants received in 2019, which was around 4,690.

Those who were successful in submitting their applications before the January deadline would be given equal attention, while those who applied after the deadline would be evaluated depending on space availability. In the United Kingdom, India continues to be the second-largest supplier of non-EU foreign students.

The record number of Indian student applications to UK institutions this year, according to UCAS International MD Des Cutchey, is a "positive sign of how nations are considering the UK as a higher education destination." In his remarks, he also mentioned that, in comparison to past years, the demand for nursing courses among potential Indian students has increased. He went on to say that the number of Indian student applications in the UK should continue to rise in the future years. Furthermore, he added that even if UK institutions established campuses in India and Indian universities established universities in the UK, the predictions would stay the same. Despite analogous situations in other nations having little influence on student applications in the UK from other countries, he added that having an experience in a country other than their own still has a tremendous attraction.

According to new data issued by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), the UK's centralised higher education admission system, the number of undergraduate applications from Indian students has increased by 30%. Indian students submitted a total of 9,930 applications a week before the UCAS deadline of June 30 for the 2021-22 academic year, up from 9,640 in 2020. In a statement, Vivienne Stern, Director of Universities UK International (UUKI), said it was great to see Indian students continue to plan their studies in the UK, and that the country is looking forward to welcome them . She also expressed gratitude to the UK government and its policies, as well as the support mechanisms established by UK universities.

India remains on the UK's foreign travel red list as of today, requiring international students with a valid UK visa to self-isolate for 10 days at a government-approved hotel upon arrival. The National Health Service (NHS) has also announced that all international students coming to the UK will receive free COVID-19 vaccines.

The UK will see a record number of overseas students studying at UK institutions later this year, according to UCAS estimates. This will result in a 14% rise in undergraduate university applications from students all across the world. One of the factors contributing to this rise might be the UK's new Graduate Route, which began accepting applications on July 1, 2021. The UK has extended the deadline for students to arrive in the country until September 27, 2021 for the 2020-21 cohort. The deadline for students beginning their studies in the UK later this year or early next year is April 6, 2022. International students should contact their particular colleges to learn more about arrivals and September preparations, according to the UUKI. Students arriving in the UK this year will have more options for starting their studies, such as learning online and travelling later if necessary, or arriving at the start of the term and requiring help throughout the quarantine period.
