The UK is among the top study abroad destinations for international students. But many students due to a myriad of issues couldn’t get admitted into their dream university in the UK. International students wishing to study in the UK should receive more help and adequate guidance, according to UCAS.

According to a report released by The Pie News, the UK has all the necessary conditions vital to international students, especially the factors related to employment, living, and education. This makes it one of the most desirable places to live and study across the world.

According to a July 2021 poll by YouthSight, approximately 88 percent of international students in the UK, or 9 out of 10, see the UK as the most favorable destination for higher studies. While the survey yielded a number of positive outcomes, UCAS observed that many overseas students did not feel fully prepared to begin their studies at UK universities. UCAS brought to light the lack of proper knowledge and guidance during the crucial stage of transition to studying in the United Kingdom is the main reason for the students being so unprepared.

Clare Marchant, Chief Executive at UCAS, stated that while international students keep UK universities in the top of their list while planning to study abroad, better guidance and support is still needed when they take major decisions about their future. Des Cutchey, UCAS International's Managing Director, showed agreement towards the findings of the research, stating that 88 percent of students still viewed the UK positively, while 63 percent perceived the UK as a superior option for higher education than other countries. The new Graduate Route, according to Cutchey, has sparked the imagination of potential overseas students. Cutchey further added that “half the applicants felt either only somewhat ready or not ready at all”. He also stated that students have shown concern towards the general uncertainty and regarding the method of teaching. When Cutchey finished a recent British Council Study UK event at the Dubai Expo in December last year, he said the feeling of "unreadiness" had been mirrored by several different prospective students.

The responses of the survey also mentions other aspects such as the finances of living and studying in the UK, prompting them to delay making final decisions and confirming their study abroad offers. In addition to highlighting the initiatives that are being taken to encourage more international students to study in the UK, UCAS also said that the international postgraduate platform Myriad has been working towards diversifying the PG applications. UCAS Myriad, according to Clare Marchant, provides a forum for international students to acquire information "on areas that are actually important" as they finalize their study abroad plans and destination.
