As the countries are now placing more emphasis on their international education sectors, ensuring that their respective nations are in the top spots for students looking to study abroad, a number of new countries have become hubs for such students.
According to the UCAS data, Wales has recorded an increase of 19% in the total number of Non-EU student enrollment in Welsh Universities and institutes, which has resulted Wales to be one of the most preferred destinations of the foreign students.

The UCAS statistics revealed that a total of 1,875 undergraduate non-EU students have enrolled in different Welsh universities, in the latest 2021 admission cycle, which is 19% higher than last year. In contrast, only 370 EU students have accepted admissions in one of the Welsh universities, which is a dramatic loss in the count and is far less than the 1,115 students who enrolled previously in 2020.
However, a significant drop had been recorded in the total number of EU student taking admission, Global Wales, an international partnership between British Council Wales, Welsh Government, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, and the Universities Wales, highlighted the increase in non-EU numbers was the largest among the other UK nations, which is also a part of the wider positive trends.
Further, there's a major rise in the total number of students seeking admission in Welsh Universities, apart from the numbers of non-EU student enrollment. According to Global Wales, around 11,625 students from England have sought admission in Welsh universities, which is a 1.5% increase over the same time in 2020.

Iwan Davies, Global Wales Chair, highlighted that in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic circumstances, the increase in the number of foreign students across Wales is an encouraging sight. Speaking about the UCAS statistics, Elizabeth Treasure, Universities Wales Chair stated that the statistics reveal that there's a “strong demand for higher education in Wales”.
Further, she pointed out the range of advantages that come along with the experience of Welsh University, from employment opportunities to wider cultural and social opportunities and that the youngsters still value them, she added.
According to the media reports, the Global Wales partnership focuses on diversifying the international student body in the country, under its goal of accomplishing 30,000 international student numbers in Wales by 200.
Meanwhile, the HESA 2019-20 statistics revealed that a total of 5,805 EU students had travelled to the country, out of the total 21,990 foreign students who travelled. The US, India, and Vietnam are the high priority countries followed by the EU, which stood as the fourth priority region among the priority regions for 2021, the media reports said.
