MAHE Manipal M.Tech FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between the GATE and MET routes for M.Tech admission at MAHE Manipal?

Ans. GATE-qualified candidates receive priority consideration under the general admission category and are eligible for the AICTE monthly stipend of INR 12,400 for the full 2-year duration of the programme. MET is MAHE’s own entrance test, conducted in two phases each year for the engineering stream. Both routes lead to the same degree and curriculum, but only GATE holders receive the AICTE financial grant. Candidates without a GATE score but with strong B.Tech academic performance can still qualify via MET and gain direct admission without the stipend.

Ques. Which M.Tech specialisations carry the highest fee at MAHE Manipal and why?

Ans. Internet of Things and Wireless and Mobile Communication carry the highest 2-year fee at INR 7,22,911, reflecting the cost of dedicated labs with embedded hardware, sensors, and spectrum analysis infrastructure. Core streams such as Automobile Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Defence Technology are priced at INR 4,76,500 as they draw on shared or more established laboratory infrastructure. The fee difference is driven by specialisation-specific equipment and not by any difference in degree quality or academic standing.

Ques. Are research publication opportunities available to M.Tech students at MIT Manipal?

Ans. Yes. MIT Manipal assigns faculty supervisors for dissertation work from the first year, and most departments run funded research projects from agencies such as DST and SERB. Specialisations including Machine Intelligence, Cyber Security, IoT, and Data Science have active publication records in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. MAHE holds a NIRF research rank of 19 nationally, reflecting a strong institutional emphasis on scholarly output that extends directly into M.Tech dissertation and lab work.

Ques. Can students from a pure science background apply for M.Tech at MAHE Manipal?

Ans. No. The programme strictly requires a BE or B.Tech degree in a relevant engineering or technology branch with a minimum 50% aggregate. Candidates with BSc, MSc, or science degrees are not eligible for M.Tech admission at MAHE. MAHE does offer separate M.Sc and research-track programmes for science graduates. Students targeting engineering research should complete B.Tech before applying for M.Tech at any AICTE-approved institution.

Ques. What career paths do M.Tech graduates from MAHE Manipal typically pursue after graduation?

Ans. Most M.Tech graduates from MIT Manipal move into product development, core engineering, analytics, and senior technical roles. Top recruiters include Amazon, Accenture, Deloitte, and Tata Group companies. A subset transitions into doctoral programmes at IITs, NITs, or overseas universities, where the M.Tech dissertation often serves as the foundation for PhD research. Graduates from Data Science, Machine Intelligence, and Cyber Security specialisations frequently receive offers from product-based companies in the INR 10 to 15 LPA range for M.Tech-specific roles.
