Ques. What salary can a fresher expect after M.Sc. IT in India?

Ans. A practical early-career expectation is roughly INR 3 LPA–INR 6 LPA for many mainstream roles, although the range changes significantly with job profile, city, programming ability, internships and employer. Product companies and specialised cloud, cybersecurity or analytics roles can pay more, while entry-level support roles may start lower.

Ques. What are the popular streams or specialisation areas in M.Sc. IT?

Ans. Common curriculum and elective areas include Cybersecurity, Network Security, Big Data, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Data Warehousing, Software Engineering, Web Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and advanced networking. These may be offered as electives or subject groups rather than formal degree specialisations.

Ques. Is M.Sc. IT is better than MCA?

Ans. Neither course is universally better. M.Sc. IT generally suits students interested in broader IT systems, computing, databases, data, networking, security and possible research/higher study. MCA commonly has a strong software and application-development orientation. Curriculum, admission eligibility and placement quality at the chosen institution should matter more than the degree title alone.

Ques. What is the difference between M.Sc. IT and M.Sc. Computer Science?

Ans. M.Sc. IT generally has a strong applied-information-technology focus involving systems, networks, databases, cloud, security and enterprise computing. M.Sc. Computer Science may place greater emphasis on algorithms, computing theory and advanced computer-science concepts. The two programmes overlap substantially, so students should compare the actual syllabus before choosing.

Ques. Can an M.Sc. IT graduate get a high package abroad?

Ans. Yes, M.Sc. IT graduates can pursue overseas employment, but there is no reliable fixed “foreign package". Salary depends on the country, role, employer, experience, technical skills, work authorisation, local taxes and cost of living. A foreign salary should therefore not be directly compared with an Indian LPA figure only through currency conversion.

Ques. Can M.Sc. IT graduates work in Data Science or Cybersecurity?

Ans. Yes, provided they build the required specialised skills. M.Sc. IT curricula commonly include data mining, big data, security, networking and related subjects. For Data Science, stronger Python, statistics, SQL and machine-learning skills are useful; for cybersecurity, networking, operating systems, security tools and practical labs/projects are important.

Ques. Can I pursue a Ph.D. after M.Sc. IT?

Ans. Yes. M.Sc. IT graduates can pursue doctoral study in Information Technology, Computer Science or an allied discipline, subject to the Ph.D. programme's eligibility and entrance/interview requirements. Research and higher education are established progression routes after M.Sc. IT.

Ques. Can I pursue M.Tech after M.Sc. IT?

Ans. It is possible at institutions whose M.Tech eligibility accepts an M.Sc. IT, Computer Science or equivalent science/computing postgraduate background. It is not automatic for every M.Tech programme; students must check the programme's qualifying-degree and entrance-exam rules before applying.

Types of Admission Routes in India

Admission Route Applicable Route for M.Sc. IT
National-Level Entrance Examination CUET (PG) is applicable where a university specifically maps M.Sc. IT to an eligible CUET paper/programme. The CUET score is followed by the participating university's own admission or counselling process.
University-Level Entrance Examination DAU M.Sc. IT Entrance Test, JET PG, JUET-PG and University of Mysore PG Entrance Examination are important examples. They mainly cover programmes of the respective university/campuses.
Merit-Based Admission Some colleges select students from graduation marks without a separate entrance test. SIES College's 2026-27 M.Sc. IT admission explicitly uses merit and no entrance examination; KC College also published M.Sc. IT merit lists for 2026-27.
Counselling/Seat-Allotment Route Entrance-qualified or merit-listed candidates may need a separate university application, counselling/seat allocation, original-document verification and fee payment before the seat is confirmed.
Three Myths Busted
  • Myth: Only B.Sc. IT graduates can apply. Many institutes also accept BCA, Computer Science, engineering and allied graduates. DAU's 2026 rule even allows a bachelor's degree in any stream with a 60% aggregate.
  • Myth: Every M.Sc. IT admission requires an entrance exam. SIES College's 2026-27 M.Sc. IT admission specifically has no entrance test and uses qualifying-degree merit.
  • Myth: M.Sc. IT only leads to coding jobs. The curriculum also covers databases, networking, cybersecurity, data, systems and software architecture, opening several technical career tracks.

M.Sc. (Information Technology) Admission Process

Eligibility

  • Complete a recognised bachelor's degree. Around 50% aggregate is a common requirement, but institute-specific cut-offs differ.
  • Common eligible backgrounds include B.Sc. IT, B.Sc. Computer Science, BCA, B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science/IT and allied subjects. Some universities permit broader backgrounds.

Entrance / Application

  • Apply for CUET (PG), DAU M.Sc. IT Entrance, JET PG, JUET-PG or another specified university test where required.
  • Merit-route applicants submit qualifying-degree marks directly to the institution.

Result & Shortlisting

  • Entrance institutions prepare a rank/merit list using the relevant exam score or prescribed composite score.
  • Some universities add counselling or a personal interview; JAIN PG selection includes a written test and a personal interview.

Counselling & Verification

  • Complete institute/university counselling or seat-allocation formalities.
  • Common documents include Class 10 and 12 certificates, bachelor's marksheets, provisional/degree certificates, ID proof, photographs, transfer/migration certificates and category certificates where applicable.

  • Admission may remain provisional until final qualifying-degree results and eligibility documents are verified.

Merit-Based Admission Without Entrance

  • SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mumbai: no entrance test for M.Sc. IT in 2026-27; selection based on qualifying-degree merit.
  • Kishinchand Chellaram College, Mumbai: M.Sc. IT merit lists were issued for 2026-27; admission required document verification and fee payment.

Top M.Sc. (Information Technology) Colleges in India

Ques. Is IIT JAM compulsory or commonly required for the M.Sc. Information Technology course?

Ans. No. Students should apply only through an examination specifically listed by their target institution for M.Sc. IT. The verified 2026 routes above use CUET (PG), university-level tests or graduation merit rather than treating IIT JAM as a universal M.Sc. IT requirement.

Ques. What entrance-exam score is required for a good M.Sc. IT college?

Ans. There is no common M.Sc. IT cutoff across India. Each university uses its own entrance score, merit list, seat matrix and category rules. A student should first meet the qualifying-degree requirement and then target a score comfortably above the previous or current institution-specific merit threshold where such data is published.

Ques. Is merit-based M.Sc. IT admission available without an entrance exam?

Ans. Yes. SIES College's 2026-27 M.Sc. IT notice explicitly states no entrance test and selects candidates using qualifying-degree merit. KC College also issued M.Sc. IT merit lists for 2026-27, followed by document verification and fee payment.

Ques. Are online or distance M.Sc. IT programmes available?

Ans. Yes, course listings include distance and online study options in addition to full-time programmes. However, availability and regulatory entitlement can change, so students should verify the exact university, mode and current recognition status before admission. The current course category contains 25 distance and 5 online listings.

Ques. Is an internship compulsory during M.Sc. IT?

Ans. It depends on the university. DAU, for example, requires a four-week summer internship after the second semester and a final-semester project component. Other universities may have a project, industrial training, internship or dissertation under a different structure.

Ques. What documents are generally required for M.Sc. IT admission?

Ans. Students generally need Class 10 and 12 marksheets, bachelor's semester/year marksheets, provisional or final degree certificate, photographs, a valid ID, a transfer certificate and migration certificate. Category, domicile or income certificates are required only where applicable. Final-year students may initially receive provisional admission subject to submission of their completed bachelor's result.

The college has a Fest named Kshitij and all the departments organize their events under this banner. As I was from Mumbai, the fest that happens in SCET is nothing in front of the Fest that happens in Mumbai. The vibe is not that someone wants. But comparing it to the local level or surat level you can get an Little above average experience. There are many clubs for the nerds as well as for the sports enthusiasts and not to forget the club for the people who love politics(I would prefer not to say the name????). Yaa it's an Little above average college. infrastructure of the college is good. They have done 2 grounds, 2 gardens, 2 major canteens, and some more things.

Placement Experience

The college placement cell is good, it's just that you have to put some efforts to get yourself placed. Speaking about the companies, the placement cell is well reputed and you get to appear before a hell lot of companies. Getting a job or internship is not as difficult and not easy, it's just that you have to be sharp enough and put a little extra effort to get selected. The placement starts from the first day of the 3rd sem and the companies will continue to recruit you till the year end. Some of the companies continue to recruit even after the final exams but it's better if you secure your job as soon as possible.

Fees and Financial Aid

I completed my master's in Information technology this year, I had a in house access as I completed my Bachelor's from the same college. My fees for the first year of college was 49,000. We had different amenities like library, gym khana, computer lab. The distribution of this fees structure involves Tution fee, caution fees, registeration fees, admission fees, development fees, lab fees the most portion of this fees was for computer laboratory fees. The fees of other courses of Master's is around 25000/- to 40000 including all charges. Our college has different events, celebrations and organisations. One of the NGO's in college is ROTARACT CLUB OF SIES NERUL(RCSIES). It is a well renowned organisation and it helps to improve students professionally and socially.

Placement Experience

The placements in this college are not so great. They really want master's graduate to get BPO's job. But not all of them. There were some good placement opportunities which wou;d help students grow. After 3rd Sem students are eligible for exam this is only applicable for masters graduate. for Bachelor's it is during 5th SEM. Deloitte, Infoysis, TCS,Reliance and many others used to get place for this role. The criteria was to be clear of all semesters with first class passing CGPA or percentage.

Fees and Financial Aid

Currently I'm pursuing MSC.IT from mata gujri college, though according to me fee structure is not affordable for many students and the they don't provide any training sessions because my course is practical and to get a job i need to learn any particular software language so that i can compete but they don't provide any such things even there is no scope for placements.I think it's just waste of time and money without training.

Faculty

In each semester ,mid semesters are conducted two times and then finals..furthermore exams level is moderate but marking is way to strict. I think computer department have the best faculty members and the canteen is not justifiable it's to nasty and staff is to rude and arrogant. Though girls ratio is less campared to boys in every faculty

I will rate this course 9 out of 10. This course will provide relevant and comprehensive knowledge about different subjects which are being used in the computer technology world. I choose this course as in the developing world computer technology is the most important aspect to learn.this course will prepare an individual for the real world of computer technology and applications . As computer world is developing day by day so the books have to be updated with the changing trends. As the MSC have a moderate level of tougness if a student takes regular classes and practice practical they will easily go through exams . Faculty

Faculties behave in a friendly manner and they treat us like a friends. They guide us through out the academic year. They will not see partiality among the students. They guide us whenever we needed We have Continuous assesment before the semester and it helps a lot to improve with the marks. Mostly everyone will clear the exams. May be one or two members might fail
