Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Information Technology (IT) is a 2 years’ postgraduate degree program which can be done after any bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in aggregate. This course is established to provide theoretical as well as practical knowledge related to data mining and controlling with software applications and their development. Average fees of this course would be from Rs. 80,000/- to 3 Lakh depending upon the criteria of the college. Admission in most of the colleges is done through merit list based on marks in bachelors degree however there are some colleges which offer admission on the basis of entrance test.

The main objective of this course is to provide knowledge of programming, implementation of common data structures using OOP principles in C++ and ADTs which covers Lists, Stacks, Queues, Trees, and Graphs. Information technology includes software development, data manipulation and technology re-engineering which can be learned after completing this course.

After this course candidate will be able to handle digital commerce, software development and can achieve organizational goals objectives Also they can control the maintenance of software network to handle the technological challenges. After completing this course candidates can get jobs in IT sector with the salary packages from Rs. 3 Lakh to 8 Lakh per annum.

What is M.Sc. in IT about?

While pursuing this course, students will learn how to solve IT issues at workplace, OOP based implementation of algorithms, how to do data management, tree traversal, heaps, dictionaries, depth-first-search, breadth-first-search, and performance analysis of sorting, searching, traversal algorithms, control over of IT functions and projects with the use of latest technology.

Academic Options after M.Sc. IT

Candidates, who are interested in pursuing higher education in this field after completing their M.Sc. degree, can opt for research work in IT field. Eligibility Of the Master of Science [M.Sc.] (Information Technology)

Candidates can be eligible for admission if they fulfill any of the following conditions:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Information Technology/Computer Science/Physics/Stats/Electronics or equivalent examination with at least 45% marks in aggregate from a recognized university.
  • B.Tech./BE degree holders in Computer Science/Informational Technology are also eligible for M.Sc. IT course.

Aggregate percentage required in graduation or equivalent may vary from college to college. 

How to Get Admission in Master of Science [M.Sc.] (Information Technology)

In order to take admission candidate should have bachelor degree with science stream and on the basis of marks obtained and merit list candidates can apply for admission in master degree of information technology.

However there are some colleges who offer admission after clearance of entrance examination and on the basis of marks obtained in entrance test along with marks scored in bachelors degree admission can be done. And also in lateral entry option is available for admission in some universities and colleges.

There are so many entrance examination for M.Sc. course among which TANCET is the most popular. TANCET is conducted by Anna University for admissions in colleges in Tamil Nadu. Entrance examination will be of objective type in which there will be 4 answers available to each question and out of which candidate need to select the appropriate one. Entrance test will be of 3 hours and there can be negative marking also for each wrong answer.

Selection Process

For the selection process candidates will be assessed on the basis of marks obtained at graduation level and entrance test wherever applicable. After this they have to clear group discussion and personal interview by showing their caliber and expertise in knowledge and study.

In group discussion candidates will be assessed in group of individuals with the same topic at the same time. They have to stand for their own opinion in the group. And in personal interview they will be assessed on the basis of individual capability and skills. The weightage of all the above are as follows-

Weightage is given to mainly academic qualifications, and entrance test if applicable. The distribution of weightage ranges between 50 to 60% for academics and 20 to 30% for entrance test, 10% is given to GD PI whereever is applicable.

After that on the basis of this criteria, final admisisons are done and sect is allotted to candidate.
