- A Triumph of Surgery, prose by James Alfred Wight, is about a small dog, Tricki who was fed unhealthy treats by his wealthy mistress, Mrs Pumphrey several times a day.
- She often overfed her dog in the name of love. In no time, Tricki gained an unnatural amount of weight and became lazy.
- Soon, his lack of body movement stressed Mrs Pumphrey and she immediately consulted Mr James Herriot, a veterinary surgeon.
- Mr Herriot was instantly worried and equally surprised when he saw Tricki’s condition, immediately shifting him to the hospital.
- He learned that Mrs Pumphrey's indulgence in overfeeding Tricki might never stop.
- After being shifted to a hospital bed, Tricki didn’t move and neither ate for two days. On the third day, he surprisingly started moving and played along other dogs.
- Mr Herriot charted him a balanced diet and included several physical activities to keep his movement rolling. Tricki’s condition gradually improved and he started fighting with other dogs on his way to recovery.
- Often, Mrs Pumphrey would send her dog wine and eggs, all of which were consumed by James Herriot and his partners. However, he felt guilty for doing the same.
