Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research or commonly known as JIPMER, is a medical school located in Puducherry. It is an institute of national importance and managed by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
JIPMER 2020 exam has been replaced by NEET examination. Candidates willing to take admission in the UG program offered by the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, Puducherry, can appear in NEET exam. Previously, the institute itself conducted the examination.
Indian nationals, with a 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible to apply online at jipmer.edu.in. The number of registrants applying for JIPMER 2020 is likely to cross 2 lakh. Although such a huge number of students apply for the exam, it should be kept in mind that there will be no provision to make corrections in the applications after its final submission. JIPMER and AIIMS are the only two institutes across the country that managed their own entrance exams for MBBS. All the other institutes in India conduct their MBBS admissions via the NEET exam (directed by the NTA). However, the Government of India has added JIPMER and AIIMS into the list of exams conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency) from this academic session. Nearly 2 lakh students had appeared for the exam last year which was held at 290 centers across India. The total number of seats available under JIPMER 2020 is expected to be 200, 150 seats in JIPMER Puducherry and 50 seats in JIPMER Karaikal.
