  • The Trees, by Adrienne Rich, is a poem describing trees.
  • The poem begins by explaining how humans, for motives of their own, have constantly destroyed forests and have often cut down trees.
  • The poetess claims that the forest is the original home of trees. Adrienne Rich has described it as a metaphor for how humans have destroyed the forests responsible to house trees.
  • As the forest has been destroyed, she mentions that the birds cannot perch on branches anymore, and neither can the insects hide in trees. It has made it impossible for the sunlight to disappear due to the trees’ shadow.
