NID 2020 SELECTION PROCESS
NATIONAL LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
National Institute of Design conducts NID DAT through written test (including prelims and mains) followed by studio test and personal interview for admissions into B.Des/GDPD and M.Des courses. Also, the authorities will not be conducting the Studio Test and Personal Interview round at its campuses for M.Des courses. The decision has been taken in a view of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Candidates must note that NID reserves the right to verify the information provided by the candidate at any stage of the selection procedure. Candidates who fail to meet the criteria or has provided any fake information would be immediately debarred from participating any further in the NID 2020 Admission Process. National Insitute of Design (NID) has changed the weightage allocated to NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains while preparing the final result for NID MDes admission 2020. As per the earlier shortlisting criteria, the weightage allocated to each exam in MDes course was 30% and NID DAT Mains weightage was 70%. However, the new weightage allocated to each of the exams for NID admission 2020 (for all MDes specialisations) is tabulated below:

Studio Test is the second step in the Selection Procedure of NID 2020. A candidate after clearing the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), has to appear for the Studio Test. Only shortlisted candidates, based on the scores obtained in the first step of NID 2020 Selection Procedure i.e. DAT (Design Aptitude Test) will be eligible to participate in the Studio Tests and Personal Interview. There will be separate NID Admit Card issued for Studio Tests and Personal Interviews. Admit cards are available for the shortlisted candidates on the official admission portal of NID - admissions.nid.edu. A candidate without a valid admit card will not be allowed to appear for the Studio Test.
The final step in NID 2020 Selection Procedure after successfully clearing the studio test is to face the personal interview. Personal interview is third and the last step of NID 2020 Selection Process. With the completion of personal interview Selection Procedure for NID 2020 ends and candidates are evaluated on the basis of three tier selection method.
There are three designated Test centers that are allotted to candidates appearing for the studio test and personal interviews which are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar. Candidates are then evaluated on the basis of scores obtained in all three steps of the selection procedure for NID 2020 i.e. Design Aptitude Test, Studio Test and Personal Interview.
The studio test for B. Des. will take place at Ahmedabad campus only. Overseas candidates seeking admission in B. Des and M. Des. will also have to appear for Studio test and Interviews at the Ahmedabad campus only. After the completion of the studio test, a personal interview is conducted for judging applicants’ ability, personality and dedication towards the course, in person.
