SNAP Reservation Policy 2018

The reservations for SNAPis defined as per UGC regulations and guidelines. SNAP Reservation policy for all the programs of Institutes under SIU is similar except Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies, which has a separate policy.

This year, SNAP 2018 is scheduled for December 16, 2018 in online (computer-based) mode, apply online before November 26. Candidates who wish to appear for the test must have a clear understanding of SNAP 2018 reservation policy and eligibility. They will be shortlisted as per SNAP Cut off. Read on to know more about SNAP Reservation.

SIU has divided SNAP Reservation into two parts. It is given below in brief:


  1. Within Sanctioned Limit
    • 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates.
    • For ST candidates, 7.5% seats are reserved.
    • 3% seats are reserved for Differently Abled (DA) candidates.
    • Children/ wards of Defence Personnel
  1. Over and Above Intake
    • In this, 2 seats per program are saved for Kashmiri Pandits.
    • For international candidates, 15% seats are reserved.

SNAP Reservation Criteria 2018

The following will be the reservation of seats for admission to any program of Institutes of SIU. As an exception, Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies follows a separate policy, which is given further.

  5. Multiple Disabilities
  6. Dyslexia
Note: All candidates claiming admission under DAC will be provisionally admitted under the said category. Thereafter, a candidate will be required to obtain an 'Authentication Certificate' from Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) within one month of commencement of the program. SCHC will check the validity of documents produced by the candidates and verify the continued existence and extent of the disability.

Defination for Children / Wards of Defence Personnel is:
The term Defence Personnel would mean only those serving / retired Defence personnel from Army, Navy, Air Force. Retired defence personnel are those who fall in the category of ex-servicemen as laid down in Ministry of Defence letter no 36035/5/85- Estt (SCT) dated 14 April 1987. It includes children of defence personnel who died while in service or after retirement.

    Important Note:

    • Candidates applying from reserved categories are required to submit their valid supporting documents at the time of SNAP Selection Procedure if they are shortlisted.

    • A candidate applying under any of the reserved category (SC/ ST/ Differently Abled/ Kashmiri Migrants) must submit relevant document issued by competent authority.
    • Participation at any stage of admission process by such candidate is purely provisional and always subject verification and authentication of such relevant document.
    • In case a candidate falls under more than one of the above categories (eg. Scheduled Caste as well as Differently Abled or any other combination), he must select any one Category (i.e. Either Scheduled Caste OR Differently Abled in the case of example mentioned above) at the time of filling up SNAP registration form.
    • Category selected by the candidate at the time of registration will be considered to be his category for the entire admission process and his benefits and entitlements shall be according to such selected category.
    • He will not be able to claim benefit under the other category/s at any stage of admission on any account whatsoever.

    Note: If any information provided by the candidate in respect of his category is found to be incorrect, the University shall have right to cancel the candidature of such candidate at any stage of the admission process.

    SNAP Reservation for Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS)

    As per MoU with Ministry of Defence clause no. 13 subclause (d), The term Defence Personnel would mean only those serving/retired Defence Personnel from the Army, Navy and Air Force who fall in the category of ex-serviceman as laid down vide Ministry of Defence Letter no. 36034/5/85 -Estt (SCT) dated April 14, 1987.

    Reservation of Seats within Sanctioned Limit

    1. Defence Category-General: 80% seats for dependents (Children/Ward) of Defence personnel. (as per merit)
    2. Defence category- Special: 10% seats for dependents of Defence personnel killed in action (war, Counter Insurgency or war like operation), disabled in action (war, Counter Insurgency or war like operation), with more than 50% disability, next of kin of service personnel who have died while in service, death being attributable to military service. (as per merit)
    3. Open Category: 10% seats are in open category to civilian candidates sponsored/ recommended by the Industry (as per merit).

    Reservation of Seats Over and Above Intake

    • Officers of Armed Forces on Study Leave as authorized by respective Services HQs are granted automatic admission subject to meeting eligibility criteria.

    Documents Required at the time of SNAP Counselling 

    Given below is a set of documents that are required at the time of SNAP Selection Procedure:

    1. SNAP 2018 Score Card
    2. PwD certificate and later candidates belonging to this category will have to obtain 'Authentication Certificate' from the Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) within the 1 month of commencement of the MBA Degree Program.
    3. Mark-sheets of the latest education qualification.
    4. NRI Candidates will have to show the mark-sheets of any of the two qualifying examinations from any country outside India.
    5. Candidates belonging to OCI category will have to show OCI Card.
    6. Candidates belonging to PIO category will have to show PIO Card.
    7. Foreign candidates will have to produce a foreign passport at the time of SNAP 2018 counselling.
    8. The international candidates are required to produce an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

    10. Candidates belonging to reserved category will have to produce their valid certificates.
