The TISS 2027 Reservation Policy follows central Government of India norms, reserving 59.5% of seats for students from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) categories, with an additional 5% horizontal reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). From academic year 2026-27 onwards, TISS no longer conducts TISSNET — admissions to most PG programmes are now through CUET PG (conducted by NTA), and select programmes such as MA HRM & Labour Relations use CAT scores. What is TISS 2027 Reservation Criteria?

TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences), Mumbai is a premier deemed university established under the UGC Act and fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. As a centrally funded institution, TISS is bound to implement the reservation norms mandated by the Government of India for all its programmes across all campuses.

The constitutional and statutory basis for reservation at TISS includes Articles 15(4), 15(5), 16(4), and 16(6) of the Constitution of India, along with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and the EWS Amendment Act 2019.

Important Update for 2027: TISSNET has been permanently discontinued. Admission to TISS postgraduate programmes from AY 2026-27 onwards is through CUET PG (NTA) for most programmes and through CAT scores for MA HRM & Labour Relations. The reservation policy, percentages, and eligibility conditions applicable under TISSNET continue unchanged under CUET PG / CAT-based admission.

TISS Seat Structure — All-India Seats

Unlike medical or engineering entrance exams, TISS does not follow an AIQ vs State Quota model. All seats across all TISS campuses are under the national (All-India) category, since TISS is a single centrally funded institution. Reservation applies uniformly across all campuses and programmes.

Students must follow these steps to claim a reserved category seat in TISS 2027 admissions:

• Register on the CUET PG 2027 portal (NTA) and select the correct category — the same category must appear in both CUET PG registration and the TISS application form
• Upload valid category/caste/income certificates during the TISS application form submission
• Ensure OBC-NCL certificates are in Central Government format and valid for academic year 2027-28
• Produce original certificates at TISS during document verification at the time of admission

TISS 2027 Reservation for Girls / Women

TISS does not maintain a separate dedicated reservation quota exclusively for women at the institutional level. There is no central government mandate for a women-specific seat reservation at deemed universities under CUET PG or TISSNET admission. However, several provisions effectively benefit women students at TISS:

• Women students belonging to SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, or PwBD categories benefit fully from their respective category reservations
• TISS’s MA in Women’s Studies programme (Mumbai campus) is designed specifically for women students and admits only women
• The Ministry of Education’s gender-parity guidelines encourage centrally funded institutions to achieve gender balance in reserved-category admissions
• Several TISS scholarship and fellowship programmes — including the TISS National Fellowship — are exclusively open to women from marginalised communities
• The Armed Forces supernumerary quota at TISS specifically includes widows of Armed Forces personnel as a priority group

Women students are encouraged to apply under their applicable category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/General). The MA Women’s Studies programme at TISS Mumbai is an exception — it is exclusively for women regardless of category.

TISS 2027 Reservation for NRI / International Students

TISS does not maintain a formal NRI quota for CUET PG-based admissions. NRIs and international students are admitted through a separate process managed directly by TISS, independent of CUET PG.

NRI students holding Indian citizenship who possess valid SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS certificates from a competent authority may claim reservation benefits if applying through CUET PG and the standard TISS admission process.

Documents Required for TISS 2027 Reservation

Students applying under reserved categories must upload documents during the TISS application and produce originals at TISS during Stage 5 (document verification) after seat allotment. Failure to produce valid originals results in immediate cancellation of admission.

All certificates must be valid and in the correct format at the time of TISS document verification. Expired certificates, certificates in state formats where central format is required, or photocopies without originals lead to disqualification from the reserved category seat.

From 2027, admission to the following TISS postgraduate programmes is through CUET PG 2027 (NTA). The MA HRM & Labour Relations programme uses CAT scores. TISS Reservation 2027 — Important Points to Remember

• TISSNET is Discontinued — Apply via CUET PG: TISS 2027 admissions are through CUET PG 2027 (NTA) for most PG programmes and CAT 2026 for MA HRM & Labour Relations. Register on the NTA CUET PG portal separately before applying to TISS.
• OBC-NCL Certificate — Central Format Only: TISS accepts only the Central Government OBC-NCL format. State OBC lists are not valid. The certificate must be valid for AY 2027-28.
• EWS Certificate Year Matters: The EWS Income and Asset Certificate must be for FY 2026-27 (April 2026 – March 2027). Certificates from FY 2025-26 or earlier will not be accepted.
• Category Cannot Be Changed After Submission: The category in your CUET PG 2027 registration and TISS application form must match and cannot be changed once submitted. Apply carefully under the correct category.
• PwBD Scribe / Extra Time: Students needing a scribe or compensatory time during CUET PG must request this on the NTA CUET PG application form. A separate request to TISS is needed for PIT and Interview stages.
• Document Verification is Mandatory: Original certificates must be produced at TISS during Stage 5 (document verification). Photocopies, expired certificates, or wrong-format certificates result in disqualification.
