Ramjas College, BA, English Literature

Remarks

Our college is very good according to me and the management of our college works very smoothly with only a little bit difficulties during the time of distribution of admit cards and other forms.

Entrance Preview

The admission to any Delhi university college is based on cut offs i.e. by percentage of marks scored in class 12th. I scored 90% in my class 12th examinations and got admission in the college in the 3rd cut off at 89%. I opted for this college because in my dream list of colleges i had three colleges in my mind including Ramjas. The cut offs of the other two colleges were pretty high and so i took admissionin Ramjas. I opted for English hons. Because it is a different kind of course and it has helped to gain confidence and open up among different people coming from different parts of the world.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course is pretty nice and the professors are highly qualified. The main motive of the professors is to let us gain confidence and speak up in the class. We get to study literature from different times and with the introduction of CBCS we are given a number of choices out of which we can choose any subject we like given that the subject should not be related to our main subject i.e. English. So we can opt for histoy , political science , Chemistry , Physics and many more.

Internships Opportunities

Yes , it provides internships to the students of second and third year. I have not experienced it yet.

Placement Experience

4

Our college has a placement cell and every year hundreds of students of our college are given jobs. Our college is a great place for people who want to do something in their life and it is not that only the children of B.Com or economics are given jobs but also the literature students are offered jobs through placements.

College Events

4.5

Every year other than the department freshers and farewells , a college fresher is organized with the guests being renowned celebrities. The fashion society of our college does a fashion show every now and then time of the year and the other societies do their bit.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is quite feasible with the annual fees being around 10,000 for almost every course in the college. The weaker section of the society are given scholarships and the impaired students are guven various facilities for their studies. The hostel facility is also given to meritorious students and it is also quite feasable. I am not aware of the hostel fees because i live near the college and not in need of the hostel.

Fees and Financial Aid

The meritorious students and the students who belong to a poor family background are given scholarships so that it is easy for then to pay their fees and it benefits them in studies too.

Campus Life

3.5

The gender ratio in our college is quite impressive as the girls outnumber the boys here. There is no discrimination as such on any basis like caste , sex or religion. There is a gender cell which deals with all kinds of intolerance if there is any , it is open all the time not only for the females but also to the male students of the college.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I am not a hostelite and so i do not know about the facilities as such. But my friends tell me that the facilities are not so well because the mess food in not as good as it is served at home. The water facilities are also not greatly appreciated but it is not the fault of the college because water scarcity is known to everyone of us.

Alumni/Alumna

The senior students of our college are very helpful and they help us in our studies too. They are very nice to us and none of them did ragging or something like that which would hurt our sentiments or reduce our confidence.

Exam Structure

The university of Delhi has a semester wise exam structure. We give four to five exams each semester and all the exams are of 100 marks. The marks are divided as 75 marks for the written exam , 10 marks for the internal assessment , 10 marks for the project or assignments and 5 marks for the attendance. Each 75 mark exam is of 3 hours each due to which it is quiet easy for us to finish our exam in time.

Admission

The cut off was released on the university website and the next day i went to the college with all the necessary documents including my 12th class marksheet , 10th class marksheet , Caste certificate , Migration Certificate, University registration form and my character certificate. I just entered the college went to the department room and the professor sitting there checked all my documents and sent me to another room where my name would be announced over mic once all my documents are checked thoroughly again. As my name was announced i went to the fee deposit window and deposited my fee in return of which i got the receipt and i became a member of the Ramjas family.

Faculty

5

The faculty of our college is the best in the university. The teachers are well qualified and teach us daily with only one or two off classes. As it is said that teachers do not come to the college or the students are not interested in the classes , but it is not the case in Ramjas because the teachers and the students are equally interested in teaching and attending the classes respectively. The faculty consists of many members due to which we get to study from different teachers every semester which is a plus point as well because every teacher has his or her unique way of teaching.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Being brutally honest I don't think that the course contributes a lot to our preparation for the real world but it teaches us very new things which I like. The course might not be very helpful in our real life preparation or the preparation for the real world but at the same time it enhances our knowledge and teachers as about various new things so I am satisfied with my course and whatever the curriculum includes I like it

In term of relevance I'll say that there are many topics which should not be taught as they are way too old and contradicting in modern times. New tumes problems and solutions should be taught in replace focusing on present.

Placement Experience:

Final year students are generally placed with an average package of 7-8 lakhs for management programs. Companies including the big 4 like EY, KPMG, Deloitte and other reputed companies have visited and many offers have been made. Around 60% of the students get placed in management branch. After getting the degree, I am also planning to appear in the placement opportunities.
