Likes
- The college campuses are beautiful. They emphasize on sustainable environment. They use recycling methods in college and different activities are being organised to make people more environmentally enthusiastic.
- Apart this this the college is highly inclined to academics. The professors take regular classes and come prepared for the lectures. They are supportive as well and use relevant teaching methods.
- Tutorial classes are organised to clear the doubts of students. Aprt from academics a wide range of activities, competitions , workshops and seminars are conducted for the students very regularly. ECA is also promoted through college societies.
Dislikes
- The academics Oriented nature and maintaining compulsory attendance sometimes exhausts you in the whole process and you are not left with ample amount of time to focus on other things in the life.
- The food of college canteens needs severe improvement in quality as well as price range. The college hours should also be reduced from 8-5:20. The irregular nature of timetable should be fixed so that student don't have to wait for long hours.
- Then some of the classrooms are damp and shady. Library staff is often on strike due to which one cannot avail library facilities. The benches aren't comfortable according to long hour classes. But overall college is good according to govt. College.
Course Curriculum Overview
It was not a political science student in my school life. I decided to go for political science jist because i felt it will somehow incline to my goal of pursuing law further. At start i was sceptical regarding the course that whether it will be hard for me, I'll be able to understand or perform well or not. But it well very well. Teachers teach you from basics and the curriculum is fixed in such manner that it is not hard for beginners also. The exams happen at the end of the semester only and internal tests happens in between which i fell is good according to an hons degree, you get ample amount of time to prepare and understand the subject.
Placement Experience
The campus placement are not sure. They may or may not have campus placements. However, in previous years various prestigious companies used to come and made offers. Polutical Science students also got placed, like one of my senior got placed with 14lpa whereas the average packages were 3-4lpa. The percentage of students getting placed is low. My plan after this degree is to pursue law. Some of my fellow colleagues wants to fo for preparation, some of them wants to go for masters for getting in academics.Some of them wants to go abroad for studies. However, other options are available like going in journalism, political consultancy, political advisor, political strategist etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees was 20120 in 2023 session whoch is pretty much affordable. Apart from this, various assistance and scholarships opportunities come up very regularly for reserved category students. They can fill the form, provide the necessary details and then easily avail the scholarships provided by college, universities and other entities. Students often get opportunities in departments for council and organizing committee but that is unpaid. For internships you have to find yourself and placement cell is also not much active. You have possibilities to get placed but not that high. Only a handful of students get placed. And the number of political science students is less even more.
Campus Life
The overall campus life is good.You'll gey good exposure if you are active student and grab opportunities from the start. The annual fests of all the colleges of DU are organised during February to April end. You can participate and go to various colleges by registering for the event. The annual fest of IPCW is SHRUTI. Good amount of resources are invested in the fests of DU. E-library facilities are also available. Library have centralised AC and books are renewed as per the suggestions by students during every session start. Most of the classrooms are projector enabled. Basket ball court, tennis table court, swimming pool, gym,archery room, a whole sports complex is open for students and they are promoted to participate in various sports and ECA. Mridang is the classical dance society, Nrityangana is the western dance society, Abhivyakti is the dramatic society and many more societies are there.
Admission
I applied for DU in 2022, it was the first batch to entrr through the entrance exam and not merit basis. I filled the form of CUET examination. Filled the universities like DU and BHU. Then after that I gave exams for 5 subjects which was on computer mode. It was scheduled for two consecutive days in the city near my hometown. After that I filled CSAS portal, with my preference list of colleges of DU then I was allowed the Indraprastha College for Women, B.A.(hons) Political Science according to my score which was 736 out of 800 and unreserved category. Then I freezed the option and got nyslef enrolled in the college.
Faculty
Initially the faculty ratio was less but now it is good, it is approx 1:32. Most of the senior professors have good teaching approach and they guide very well. The assistant professor are also good. Only very few them have poor pedagogy skills. The professors are easily available and they interact with students very often. They are keen to solve your doubts outside the capacity of classes as well. They are well qualified as well, most of them are phd or pursuing phd along with teaching. Teachers are bilungual during classes i.e., they use both hindi and english. They always try to engage with students in other events as well not only academics. However, maintaining professionalism is always implied for both students as well as the faculty members.
