AILET 2027 Seat Matrix: NLU Delhi BA LLB Seats and Category-Wise Reservation

NLU Delhi offers a total of 120 seats for the BA LLB (Hons.) programme through AILET 2027 — 110 seats for Indian nationals and 10 seats for Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO candidates combined.

The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is the sole gateway to the five-year integrated BA LLB (Hons.) programme at National Law University Delhi. The seat matrix follows Government of India reservation norms, applying vertical reservations for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and EWS students along with horizontal reservations for Persons with Disabilities and women across every category. Based on the official 2026 intake, the seat matrix below is expected to remain unchanged for AILET 2027 unless NLU Delhi issues a revised notification.

• Grand total: 120 seats — 110 for Indian nationals and 10 for Foreign Nationals/OCI/PIO.
• General category holds 50 seats; OBC-NCL gets 24 seats; SC gets 17 seats; EWS gets 11 seats; ST gets 8 seats.
• 5% horizontal PwD reservation applies within each category — 6 seats total out of 110.
• 30% of seats in every category are horizontally reserved for women.
• OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be issued on or after April 1, 2025 to be valid for AILET 2027.

AILET 2027 Total Seat Intake at NLU Delhi

NLU Delhi’s BA LLB (Hons.) programme has a sanctioned intake of 120 seats for AILET 2027. Of these, 110 seats are allocated for Indian nationals across five reservation categories and 10 seats are separately allocated for Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO students outside the merit-based AILET pool.

Category-Wise Seat Breakdown for Indian Nationals

The 110 Indian national seats in AILET 2027 are divided across five vertical reservation categories. Within each category, 5% of seats are additionally carved out as horizontal PwD reservation. The table below shows gross category seats and the net seats available to non-PwD students after the PwD allocation is applied.

The General category accounts for roughly 45% of the Indian national intake at 50 seats. OBC-NCL students hold the second-largest block with 24 seats. SC students have 17 seats while EWS students have 11 seats and ST students have 8 seats. Within the ST pool, no PwD sub-reservation is separately carved since 5% of 8 rounds to zero; PwD students applying under ST are considered from the general ST pool.

PwD and Women Horizontal Reservation

NLU Delhi applies two types of horizontal reservation that cut across all vertical categories in the AILET 2027 seat matrix.

PwD reservation: Students with benchmark disabilities as defined under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 are eligible for the 5% horizontal PwD reservation. PwD students compete within their own vertical category for these reserved seats. If PwD seats go unfilled in any category they revert to non-PwD students of that same category.

Women reservation: 30% of seats within each vertical category are reserved for female students. This is a within-category horizontal reservation and does not create an open women’s pool spanning categories. Unfilled women’s seats within a category are offered to male students of that same category.

Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO Seats

NLU Delhi allocates 10 seats outside the Indian national quota for Foreign Nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) or Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) candidates. These seats are evenly split between the two sub-groups.

Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO students are exempt from appearing in AILET. They apply directly to NLU Delhi through a separate admission window. These 10 seats are entirely over and above the 110 Indian national seats and have no effect on the general AILET merit list or category cut-offs.

AILET 2027 Seat Allotment Rules

Students should be aware of the following seat allotment rules when planning their AILET 2027 application under a reserved category.

• SC/ST seat conversion: Unfilled SC seats are first offered to ST students and unfilled ST seats are offered to SC students before any conversion to General category.
• OBC-NCL and EWS certificate validity: Certificates must be issued on or after April 1, 2025. An older certificate will not be accepted.
• PwD seat reversion: Unfilled PwD-reserved seats within a category revert to non-PwD students of that same vertical category — they do not move to PwD students in another category.
• Women’s reservation reversion: Unfilled women’s seats in a category are offered to male students of the same category, not to women in a different category.
• No inter-category transfer for General/OBC/EWS: Seats in the General, OBC-NCL, or EWS pools are not transferred to SC or ST pools if they remain vacant.
• Merit within category: Within each category students are ranked by AILET score. The category rank determines allocation order, not the overall merit rank.
