AILET 2019 Exam Pattern (Revised) by NLU Delhi

AILET Exam Pattern for B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M and Ph.D. programs is defined by NLU Delhi. Till date, no changes have been introduced in the structure of the law entrance exam. But, the paper pattern and level of examination differs as per the law program. 

This year, the National Law University Delhi has scheduled AILET 2019 for May 5. Interested candidates can register at nludelhi.ac.in from January 2019.  Listed below are quick facts about paper pattern of AILET:

  • The law entrance exams for LLB, LLM and Pf.D. is conducted in offline (pen-paper) mode.
  • The question will be objective in nature.
  • Exam duration for the exam is 1 hour 30 minutes (90 minutes) each.
  • NLU Delhi does not prescribe any specific syllabus for the exam, but it is similar to that of CLAT.

AILET Exam Pattern for B.A LL.B

The duration of B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Program will be of five years. To get admissions to the program, law aspirants have to appear for AILET. The paper is divided into five sections viz.

  • English including Comprehension
  • General Knowledge (Current Affairs, General Science,  History, Geography, Economics, Civics)
  • Elementary Mathematics
  • Legal Aptitude and 
  • Logical Reasoning

Detailed AILET LLB Exam Pattern

Mode of Exam

  • The undergraduate law entrance examination is conducted in an offline mode (Pen and Paper based mode).
  • Candidates are provided with an OMR sheet on which they have to fill their responses.
  • Candidates have to the responses with HB Pencil.

Type of Questions

  • The total duration of AILET 2019 is 1 hour 30 minutes (90 minutes).
  • Candidates must adhere to the time limit and try to finish the paper in time.

AILET Marking Scheme

  • Each question in AILET test paper will carry 1 mark.
  • For every correct response, the candidate is awarded 1 mark.
  • In case of wrong answer, there is a penalty of 0.25 mark.
  • For unattempted questions, there is no negative marking. 
  • In case, a candidate marks two answers to a question, it will be treated as a wrong answer and there will be a penalty of 0.25 marks.

AILET Exam Pattern for LLM

LLM is a post graduate program for LLB graduates or having an equivalent law degree. The duration of the course is one year. The paper is divided intothe following sections:

  • Law of Contracts
  • Law of Torts
  • Criminal Law
  • Constitutional Law
  • Legal Theory
  • In addition to the above, candidates will also have to write an essay on a given topic.

Mode of Exam

Marks Distribution

  • There will be 100 objective type questions and an essay that needs to be answered.
  • The subjects, Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and Legal Theory together shall carry 100 marks and the essay shall carry 50 marks.

AILET Ph.D. Exam Pattern

The program is minimum of 2 years and maximum 3 years. It comprises of two papers viz.

  • Paper 1 – Research Methodology
  • Paper 2 – Research Proposal Specific Paper

About Ph.D. Paper 1

  • There are 100 questions of objective type
  • The paper carries 100 marks 
  • The duration of exam is 1 hour 30 minutes
  • As per the marking scheme, 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer.

About Ph.D. Paper 2

  • Interested candidates have to submit a research proposal of not more than 15 pages. 
  • The proposal can be on the topic which candidates want to pursue a Ph.D.
  • It will carry a total of 100 marks
  • The research proposal shall contain:
    • Title
    • Statement of problem and background information on the subject
    • Research questions, hypothesis, and methodology
    • Research design

Ques. Is there any time limit to attempt AILET 2019?

Ans: Yes, candidates will be given 90 minutes per paper.

Ques. What is the mode of AILET Exam? Is it Online or Offline exam?

Ans: As per the official AILET Exam Pattern, the examination will be a pen paper based test. There is no option to attempt the exam in online mode.

Ques. What is the syllabus for BA LLB (Hons.) course?

Ans: The syllabus will cover topics from English, General knowledge and Current affairs, Legal Aptitude, Reasoning and Elementary Mathematics with numerical ability.

Ques. What is the syllabus for LLM courses?

Ans: The syllabus will cover topics from of Law of contracts, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and Legal Theory.

Ques. What is the nature of questions in AILET 2019?

Ans: The questions in the law paper will be objective in nature. For each question, there will be four choices out of which you need to select the most appropriate one.

Ques. Is there any negative marking in AILET?

Ans: Yes, there is a negative marking for the wrong answer. For every 4 wrong answers, 1 mark will be deducted.

Ques. Which colleges will I be able to apply through this exam?

Ans: You can take admission in National Law University Delhi and its affiliated colleges through AILET 2019.

Ques. Can I edit my answers in AILET Exam?

Ans: No, as AILET is a pen paper based test, candidates will be provided an OMR sheet, you cannot edit or change your responses after you have bubbled them.
