AILET Counselling 2026: Registration, Merit List and Round Wise Seat Allotment

AILET 2026 counselling is the merit list–based seat allocation process run by National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) for admission to its BA LLB (Hons.) and LLM programmes. NLU Delhi is the only institute that admits students through AILET — making this an institute-specific counselling with no consortium of participating colleges. Four main rounds of BA LLB and LLM seat allotment have concluded; a supplementary PG/LLM registration window closed June 15, 2026, and those LLM allotment rounds are now in progress as of July 2026.

• AILET 2026 was conducted on December 14, 2025; main counselling registration closed on December 27, 2025.

Reservation of Quotas for AILET 2026 Counselling

NLU Delhi follows central government reservation norms for its 110 Indian national merit seats in BA LLB (Hons.) and for LLM seats. Two horizontal reservations — for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and for female students — apply across all vertical categories. The 30% female horizontal reservation is a distinctive feature of NLU Delhi’s admission policy that does not exist in CLAT consortium counselling. If ST-category seats go unfilled after all rounds, they are first transferred to SC students; if still vacant, they convert to the General category.

A female student who qualifies within the General (UR) cut-off is counted against the UR female horizontal sub-quota — this does not displace male General category students below their vertical entitlement. PwD reservation is similarly horizontal across all verticals and does not add to the total seat count. How to Apply for AILET 2026 Counselling?

AILET 2026 counselling is conducted entirely online through the NLU Delhi portal at nationallawuniversitydelhi.in. The process follows five sequential steps from initial registration through physical reporting on campus. For students participating in the supplementary LLM rounds, the process is the same — registration in that window closed June 15, 2026, and allotment rounds from that batch are now in progress. Missing any step or deadline within a round excludes the student from that round and may affect subsequent rounds.

Step 1: Online Registration

Counselling registration for the main rounds opened immediately after the December 14, 2025 exam and closed on December 27, 2025. Students logged in to nationallawuniversitydelhi.in using their AILET 2026 account (the same credentials created at the time of exam registration) and navigated to the counselling section. They confirmed their programme preference (BA LLB or LLM) and filled in the required personal and academic details. For the supplementary LLM round, a separate registration window was subsequently offered; that window closed June 15, 2026. Registering for counselling is mandatory — your AILET rank alone does not guarantee a seat at NLU Delhi.

Step 2: Upload Documents and Pay Counselling Fee

After registration, students uploaded all required documents as a single self-attested PDF and paid the counselling registration fee online:

• Rs. 30,000 for General category, Kashmiri Migrants (KM), and Residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
• Rs. 20,000 for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, and PwD students.

This fee is refunded in full to students who did not receive any allotment across all rounds for their respective registration batch (main or supplementary). Students who received a seat but later withdrew after accepting it forfeit the registration fee. All refunds are credited to the same account from which the fee was originally paid; requests to credit a different account are not entertained by NLU Delhi.

Step 3: Document Verification

NLU Delhi’s admissions team reviewed uploaded documents online. Students whose documents had errors or were incomplete received email notifications with a specific correction window. An application with unverified documents is not included in any merit list allotment — students must monitor their registered email and the portal dashboard during this phase and act promptly on any defect notices to remain eligible for all rounds. This online verification step applies equally to students in the supplementary LLM batch.

Step 4: Merit List Publication and Seat Acceptance

NLU Delhi published four provisional merit lists for both BA LLB and LLM (January 8, January 21, February 4, and May 5, 2026). Each list allotted seats to students in AILET rank order within each category. Upon appearing on a merit list, students had three options within the round’s acceptance window:

• Pay the Provisional Admission Confirmation Fee of Rs. 50,000 through the portal to confirm the allotted seat provisionally.
• Decline the current allotment and remain eligible for the next merit list — the risk being that no allotment or a less favourable one may follow in subsequent rounds.
• Withdraw from AILET counselling entirely — the counselling registration fee is then forfeited, and the seat is released for waitlisted students.

For students in the supplementary LLM batch, the same three options apply for each supplementary round’s merit list as and when it is published by NLU Delhi in July 2026.

Step 5: Pay Balance Admission Fee and Report to NLU Delhi

Students who paid the Rs. 50,000 Provisional Admission Confirmation Fee in Rounds 1, 2, or 3 were required to pay the balance first-year admission fee by April 30, 2026. Round 4 students paid the full balance by May 20, 2026. Following fee payment, NLU Delhi scheduled physical reporting to the Dwarka campus for July 2026 to complete admission formalities — original document verification, a basic medical examination, student ID issuance, and hostel allotment (if applicable) — before the academic session begins in late July 2026. Students admitted through the supplementary LLM rounds will receive their own balance fee and reporting deadlines once their allotment is confirmed.

How to Accept Your Seat: Step-by-Step Guide

After each merit list is published — whether in the main four rounds or in the ongoing supplementary LLM rounds — follow these steps on the NLU Delhi counselling portal to confirm and lock your allotted seat. The portal closes once the round’s acceptance window expires; no late payments are accepted under any circumstance.

Step 1: Log In to the AILET 2026 Counselling Portal

• Go to nationallawuniversitydelhi.in and open the AILET 2026 Counselling login page.
• Enter your AILET 2026 credentials — the same login used at exam registration and counselling registration.

Step 2: Review Your Merit List Allotment

• Navigate to the current round’s merit list section on the dashboard.
• Verify your name, AILET rank, allotted programme (BA LLB or LLM), and the category of the allotted seat (UR, SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, or PwD).
• Download the Offer Letter — it contains the acceptance deadline and payment instructions specific to your round.

Step 3: Accept the Seat

• Click "Accept Seat" (or the equivalent button) on the portal dashboard.
• Read and agree to the terms and conditions for provisional admission.
• A payment page displaying the Provisional Admission Confirmation Fee of Rs. 50,000 will appear.

Step 4: Pay the Provisional Admission Confirmation Fee

• Pay Rs. 50,000 online via net banking, UPI, or debit/credit card through the portal payment gateway.
• Download the payment receipt immediately after the transaction is confirmed and save it offline.
• This Rs. 50,000 is not an additional cost — it is deducted from your Year 1 tuition when the balance fee is paid.

Step 5: Download the Provisional Admission Letter

• After successful payment, the portal generates a Provisional Admission Letter confirming your seat.
• Download and preserve this letter — it is required at physical reporting to NLU Delhi and during original document verification on campus.
• LLM supplementary round students: once your allotment letter is generated, the same acceptance and balance fee payment steps apply as in the main rounds.

Once you pay the Provisional Admission Confirmation Fee in any round, you are provisionally allotted to that programme and category. NLU Delhi does not transfer you to a different programme in subsequent rounds; however, if a UR seat opens for a student who accepted an OBC-NCL or EWS seat in an earlier round and your AILET rank qualifies, NLU Delhi may upgrade your category allotment to UR automatically — without any further action from you. Fill in all details accurately and double-check before submitting — errors in the NLU Delhi counselling portal require contacting the admissions office directly.

Documents Required for AILET 2026 Counselling

Students must upload all documents as a single self-attested PDF during the online counselling registration stage. At the time of physical reporting to NLU Delhi, bring originals and two sets of self-attested photocopies of every document. Documents that do not match what was uploaded online are flagged and can delay or cancel admission. LLM students admitted through the supplementary rounds must carry the same document set to their reporting date.

How Much Money is Needed for AILET 2026 Counselling?

AILET 2026 counselling involves two distinct payment stages before you even set foot on campus: the counselling registration fee (paid at the outset) and the Provisional Admission Confirmation Fee (paid on accepting a seat, then adjusted against tuition). A third payment — the balance first-year tuition — follows after the acceptance deadline. Plan all three in advance; no deadline in any stage is extended, and missing one means forfeiting either your place in that round or your allotted seat.

Non-Refundable Fees

The counselling registration fee behaves conditionally — it is refunded to students who received no seat in any round, but is forfeited if a seat was allotted and the student later withdrew or abandoned the process. A one-time admission fee collected at the time of physical reporting to campus is non-refundable in all cases.

The counselling registration fee refund for students who received no seat across all four main rounds was processed in batches from mid-March 2026 onwards, with the final category batch processed after June 30, 2026. All refunds are credited to the same bank account from which the fee was originally paid — requests to credit a different account are not entertained by NLU Delhi. Fees Adjustable Against Tuition

The Rs. 50,000 Provisional Admission Confirmation Fee paid on accepting a seat is not a separate cost — it is an advance payment deducted from the Year 1 tuition when the balance fee is paid. The annual BA LLB tuition for Year 1 is Rs. 1,56,000, so the balance after the Rs. 50,000 advance is Rs. 1,06,000.

Note: The total 5-year cost of the BA LLB (Hons.) programme — including tuition, hostel, and mess charges — is approximately Rs. 20–21 lakh based on current Year 1 levels and the annual increase schedule. AILET 2026 Round-Wise Seat Allotment

NLU Delhi conducted four rounds of provisional merit list–based allotment for BA LLB (Hons.) and separately for LLM. Each successive round filled vacancies created by students who appeared on the previous merit list but did not pay the Provisional Admission Confirmation Fee within the acceptance window. Following the four main rounds, NLU Delhi opened a supplementary PG registration window (closed June 15, 2026), and those LLM allotment rounds are currently in progress as of July 2026.

AILET 2025 closing rank reference (BA LLB, for context): In AILET 2025, the General / UR category closed at approximately AILET rank 150–175; OBC-NCL around 400–450; SC around 700–800; ST around 250–350. AILET 2026 main round closing ranks follow a similar pattern; supplementary LLM round closing ranks depend on the number of vacant seats and eligible supplementary registrants and will emerge as those rounds conclude.

Note: The LLM supplementary rounds are open as of July 2026. Students who registered in the June 15, 2026 supplementary window should monitor nationallawuniversitydelhi.in actively for their specific allotment dates and acceptance windows — supplementary round deadlines are not extended.

Reporting to NLU Delhi After Seat Allotment

Physical reporting at the NLU Delhi campus is the final mandatory step to convert a provisional allotment into a confirmed admission. Students who paid the balance admission fee by April 30 or May 20, 2026 (depending on their round) are completing in-person formalities in July 2026. Students admitted through the supplementary LLM rounds will receive their reporting dates once their allotment is confirmed and balance fees are paid. No admission is finalised without physical reporting — your seat remains provisional until this step is complete.

Where to Report:

• Admissions Office, National Law University Delhi, Sector-14, Dwarka, New Delhi — 110078.
• Report during office hours on a weekday within the reporting window notified by NLU Delhi on its official website.
• NLU Delhi’s Dwarka campus is accessible via the Delhi Metro (Dwarka Sector 14 station on the Blue Line).

What Happens at Physical Reporting:

• Submit the completed physical admission form along with originals and two self-attested photocopy sets of all required documents.
• The Admissions team cross-verifies originals against the PDFs uploaded during online counselling registration; discrepancies require correction before admission is finalised.
• A basic medical examination is conducted at the campus medical centre.
• Any remaining admission fees are collected at the Accounts / Fee counter (if not already paid online).
• You receive your provisional admission confirmation, NLU Delhi student roll number, library card application form, and hostel application form (if applicable).

After Reporting:

• An official NLU Delhi student email ID is created; all academic communications — including the orientation schedule, timetable, and academic calendar — are sent to this ID.
• Hostel allotment (for students who applied) is communicated separately, subject to seat availability.
• The academic induction / orientation programme precedes the first day of classes and is typically scheduled in the week before the academic session formally begins in late July 2026.

Accept, Decline, or Withdraw: What Should You Do?

After each provisional merit list is published — whether in the four main rounds or in the ongoing supplementary LLM rounds — students on that list face a decision with both financial and strategic consequences. Since AILET counselling admits students only to NLU Delhi, there is no institute-transfer option. The decision is: accept and lock in the seat, decline and wait for a later round, or withdraw entirely.

Key principle for supplementary LLM rounds: these are the last admission opportunity through AILET 2026 for LLM. If you are in the supplementary LLM batch and receive a seat offer, assess it against your alternatives carefully before declining — there are no further rounds after the supplementary sequence concludes.

If you withdraw after accepting a seat and paying the Provisional Admission Confirmation Fee, the Rs. 50,000 may not be refunded — verify the exact withdrawal-refund conditions with the NLU Delhi Admissions Office before initiating a withdrawal. The counselling registration fee (Rs. 30,000/20,000) is also forfeited in this scenario.

Students who received no allotment across all rounds (main or supplementary) should monitor nationallawuniversitydelhi.in and their registered email regularly for any further vacancy announcement that NLU Delhi may issue if reporting-stage withdrawals or cancellations create new vacancies after July 2026.
