A BSc in India is a 3-year UG programme for students who want to pursue their careers in science, technology, mathematics, healthcare, environmental sciences, and research. Today, many universities across India also offer 4-year BSc (Honours/Research) programmes under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, providing greater flexibility, multidisciplinary learning, internships, and research opportunities.

Course Highlights

  • Course Name: Bachelor of Science (BSc)
  • Course Level: Undergraduate (UG) Duration: 3 Years (General) / 4 Years (Honours or Honours with Research under NEP 2020)
  • Eligibility: Class 12 from a recognised board (PCM/PCB depending on specialisation)
  • Minimum Marks: Generally 45%–60% (varies by university)
  • Admission Process: Merit-based, CUET UG, state-level entrance exams/counselling portals, university-specific entrance tests
  • Average Fee: INR 5K - INR 3 lakh (depending on institution and specialisation)
  • Average Package: INR 3 LPA - INR 8 LPA (higher depending on skills/specialisation/location)

BSc Admission Process in India 2026

The eligibility criteria for every institution may vary, but the general eligibility criteria are that applicants must:

  • Pass Class 12 from a recognised board
  • Have studied PCM, PCB, or relevant science subjects
  • Meet the minimum percentage criteria prescribed by the institution
  • Qualify for entrance examinations (if applicable)

After checking out the eligibility, students must decide whether they want to take admission via merit (Class 12 marks) or entrance mode.

Students seeking admission via merit must fill out the registration form of their selected institutions and wait for the merit list. After the publication of the merit list, students can further apply for the counselling process or personal interview (if applicable) and confirm their seat by paying the admission fee. For the state institution, students must register themselves through the state counselling portal with their Class 12 marks and wait for the merit list to get admission to their choice of college.

For entrance examinations such as CUET UG, IISER Aptitude Test, NEST, and other state/private entrance examinations, students must register online. After filling out the necessary academic and personal details, one should appear for the entrance examination.

What to Do After Exam Results Are Announced

After the announcement of the result or scorecard, one should do the following:

  • Shortlist Colleges: Based on the entrance score, a candidate must identify colleges they’re eligible for, considering factors such as placement, location, and specialisation.
  • Check Counselling Dates: Register for the counselling process and stay updated with the counselling dates, deadlines, and application process of your preferred colleges.
  • Prepare for Further Rounds: A few BSc colleges may require further processes, such as a PI (personal interview).
  • Explore the Financial Options: A candidate must review the fee structures and scholarships of their preferred colleges.
  • Consider Alternatives: If the entrance score falls short, the candidate can opt for direct admission or plan to retake the exam next year.

Ques. Is NEET required for BSc admission 2026?

Ans. NEET is not required for regular BSc courses, but some nursing, allied health, paramedical or medical science programmes may consider NEET or another institution-specific entrance examination. Candidates should check the exact admission rules of the programme rather than assuming that every biology-based BSc requires NEET.

Ques. Should students choose BSc General or a specialised BSc programme?

Ans. BSc General is suitable for students who want to study a broader combination of science subjects before choosing a postgraduate specialisation. A specialised BSc is more appropriate for students with a clear career objective in areas such as computer science, biotechnology, statistics or forensic science. Students should compare curriculum depth, laboratory facilities, electives and postgraduate eligibility before deciding.

Ques. Is an online or distance BSc degree valid?

Ans. A distance or online degree is valid only when the university and programme are recognised by the UGC Distance Education Bureau for the relevant academic session.

FAQ’s

Ques. BCA or BSc Computer Science, which is better?

Ans. BCA is more application-oriented, whereas BSc is more concept-oriented. B.Sc. Computer Science is a three-year undergraduate degree course that trains students in the basic principles, concepts and technological implementation of computer science. It is a great course to build a strong foundation in the field. In contrast, BCA is also a three-year computer science degree but is more technical and focused on various programming languages and applications.

Ques. Which is better, BSc or BSc Hons?

Ans. Although both these degrees provide the same qualification, the academic industry prefers candidates with a BSc Hons degree since it provides deep study and knowledge in a particular subject or discipline, whereas a simple BSc degree includes all the necessary science subjects, which opens a path for the graduates to choose their field of work.

Ques. What are the eligibility criteria for BSc Distance Education?

Ans. Candidates who have completed their 12th class with a science stream with a minimum of 45% marks are eligible for the BSc distance education course.

Ques. Which BSc has more scope?

Ans. BSc degrees in computer science, data science, and information technology are highly sought after due to the growing demand for tech professionals. Additionally, BSc degrees in biotechnology, nursing, and forensic science also provide promising career paths. However, the best choice depends on individual interests and career goals.

Ques. What jobs can one get after a BSc in biology?

Ans. After a BSc in biology, some of the best career options are laboratory technician, research scientist, biotechnologist, microbiologist, ecologist, environmental scientist, forensic scientist, or a biological technician in sectors like healthcare, agriculture, government, and research institutions. You can also pursue roles as a science teacher or further your education with a master's degree to become a pharmacologist, geneticist, or nature conservation officer.

Ques. Which medical course is best after BSc?

Ans. An MSc in Nursing for advanced clinical roles, an MSc in related paramedical fields like medical laboratory technology or operation theatre technology for specialisation, or PG Diplomas/MBAs in clinical research, hospital administration, or healthcare management for non-clinical managerial roles are some of the best courses after a BSc. You can also pursue a Master of Public Health (MPH) for a focus on community health or an MSc in biomedical sciences for research-orientated careers.

Campus Life

The college didn't have any clubs or activitues based on such. The Youth fest was one annual function which was inter college. Other than this, there were some writing competions on various levels and science exhibitions too. The classes had smart boards but were barely used. Used the old school method of black board for teaching. The classroom benches were good in condition, fans in some classrooms didn't work. There were various camps that were held for NSS and NCC in the different grounds or sports areas. The makor social grouos were NSS and NCC only, for which many programs were also help. There was also the funtion room, where the different programs were held of all sorts. There was also one major college group for all college notices and information called " Youngsters of DSD".

Faculty

The faculty to student relationship was quite warm, they were helpful and there for the students. Quite apprachable. The physics and maths department faculties were great inclunding Sushil sir(maths), Vikas sir(maths), Pooja ma'am(Physics), Priyanka ma'am(Physics) and Nitasha ma'am(Life skills). There weren't any faculty members i disliked but some weren't that proficient in teaching though they had good knowledge. Each semesters we had 9 exams, which was quite a lot. The exam difficulty level, though was medium. Quite a number of students failed to clear the exams, around 60% of all. The course is up to date and now in accordance with the NEP as well.

Fees and Financial Aid

Hello, myself RADHIKA and I'm a BSC bio student at Government Bangur College in Pali. This is affiliated with Jai Narain Vyas University (JNVU) with same fees structure and scholarships. The annual fee structure for government-aided courses at Government Bangur PG College, Pali is very nominal, ranging from approximately ?6,000 to ?7,200 per year. ~Detailed Fee Structure (Yearly) .B.A.: The annual fee is approximately ?6,390. .B.Com.: The annual fee is approximately ?6,390. .B.Sc. (Bio/Maths): The annual fee is approximately ?7,200. .M.A./M.Com.: While specific annual figures are not explicitly stated, the PG courses are also government-aided and generally have low fees. .Self-Finance Courses: The college also offers self-finance seats (SFS)for various courses. So, I'm a SFS student and my fee structure ranges from 7,500 to 15,000 per year. My batchmates also have the same fees structure as mine. Government Bangur PG College, as a government institution, participates in various scholarship schemes offered by the State Government of Rajasthan and the Central Government. ~Key scholarships available or applicable to students are: .SC/ST/OBC Scholarships: Category-based scholarships often provide a full tuition fee waiver or significant financial assistance. .State Merit Scholarship: Available to meritorious students who perform well at the state level. .Chief Minister Higher Education Scholarship Scheme: For Rajasthan natives who passed their 12th with at least 60% marks and have a family income under ?2.5 lakh per annum. .Kali Bai Bheel Medhavi and Devnarayan Girls Scooty Scheme: Special schemes for girl students. ~Estimated fee structure .Tuition fees: Generally between ?15,000 and ?30,000 per year. .Other compulsory charges: In addition to tuition, students must pay for registration, caution, development, and lab fees. .Category-based fees: Fees for the SC, ST, and Management categories will differ. For example, Management quota students pay higher.

Course Curriculum Overview

.I choose BSC bio , as I'm a biology student and college provide best facilities for all 3 subjects. .The curriculum for realworld application integrates skill-based learning, experiential activities, and a balance between theory and practical knowledge .The course curriculum areas are good and teaching methods are also so good (regular classes, completion of course on time) , I think nothing for improvement in this. .Exam difficulty is subjective but often linked to the exam's complexity, breadth of the syllabus, and the level of competition involved. ~Frequency of exams .Pros: More frequent exams can lead to better academic achievement because they provide smaller, more regular deadlines, which can help students who tend to procrastinate. Cons: A very high frequency could increase student stress. ~Timing of exam As brain is most active between 6am to 11 am. Our timing of exam is 9 am to 12 pm.

The faculty to student ratio is good , each student has the chance to speak and discuss things with the concerned faculties . The faculties i like the most were for 1) CHEMISTRY : PRADEEP MISHRA SIR reason being his attentiveness and cooperation he is the one i always aproach to for any queries related to exams , fees , practicals for any damn subjects HE ALWAYS IS HELPFUL AND also if sir is not aware HE RECALLS WITHIN FEW HOURS TO VERIFY AND INFORM ABOUT IT . faculty i dislike : SPORTS and phys ed FACULTY Reason : many students have requested to update the sports occasions and arrangements like theres no other tools except for cricket , he neglects it exams are good enough they are honest , neat except for the chairs Many students find it hard to pass and 10-20% of the class is reserved with students appearing for back papers Marking schemes are as per CSJMU

Fees and Financial Aid

The year wise fees for har sahai is 8500 ( admission fee ) thats what i paid twice for 3 semesters that is : 8500×2 for 3 semesters However , the full course fee is around 50,000 thats being expected , also the fee increases as one progresses during semesters( not much ) , the category wise fees is also the same that is 8500 per semester , the fee includes the admission fee lab fee , emergency fee and etc though the college does not mentions rate of them as seperate . I am not elligible for scholarships though my teachers and friends mentioned some govt. Scholarships returning upto 90% of the fee

Fees and Financial Aid

The college offers year wise fee structure which includes : For bsc CBZ (chem, botany, zoology) - Around 700/yr For Biotechnology- 22000 - 27000/yr For Biochem- 3000/yr if you belong to SC/ST/OBC category/ you will get respective concession. No registration fee so far. College offers scholarsship benefits through MAHADBT for EWS/OBC/SC/ST candidates. Biotechnology Department is better than any other dept in our college, so if you are going to enroll for that particular program in nagpur, i think hislop college is best option.Major subject will be Biotech but you will have to choose minor subjects among Botany and zoology. Chemistry is the compulsory one.

Faculty

Faculty to student ratio - 1:30 Every other faculty member is phenomenal in their work. they have experience knowledge and very positive attitude towrds their students B.Sc biotech have 3 subjects. every subject has 2papers and hence everry particular paper has separate exams for it. Sem 1,3,5 are college exams and are held in college so internal marks are easy to gain whereas sem-2,4,6 are university based. You get centres for those. easy exams but not everyone's cup of tea.

The faculty to students ratio is 2:30 as most of the students don't come college regular as they are preparing for government exams or some are doing job .I appreciate maths faculty a lot as they never fails to help even a single student if they have problem regarding any topic.HOD of maths department is very much friendly and teachers ver well.Quereshi sir is best but this year he retired .IPhydics faulty is too good. don't like electronics faculty as the faculty of electronics department keeps on changing every semester .In 2nd sem we didn't have faculty but later on it never happened again but still I want that there must be a permanent faculty.I think CS faculty ssholud teach well as it shapes our future. In one year ,there helds two exams.Units tests is organised be every department except electronics department.Semesters exams are moderate not too hard not too easy .Most of the students fail to clear the exams as the checking of papers is strict.I sm in Non NEP batch so the course curriculum is not up to the mark but NEP batches gets to learn more relevant to today's technology

Campus Life

In this nearly 6100 rupees for tution fee. 2000 nearly for development fees. 3000 includes Health care, buliding fund etc. And left 1000 includes Charity fee, garden maintenance fee, painting and reaper etc. 6000 is mainly for university fee. In our college no category difference in fee.every student have to pay all college fee. I liked chemistry madam in our college.she teach very well. And she is very close to me Because she is very supportive. In our college in every sem 2 internals are kept.and every sem exam are taken by university. Every exam is very strict and effective role in our education. Faculty

the faculty to student ratio is pretty well divided and adequate, the teachers are very helpful and maintain or atleast try to maintain a healthy relationship with each student present. moreover there arent any professors i dislike but a number of professors i really like for their teaching style and knowledge of the subject in general, who i will not be naming. we have 4 exams a year, 2 mid semester examinations happening in september and march respectively and 2 end semester examinations happening in december and may respectively. they are not difficult perse if you have studied the modules and topics along with the notes the teachers provide and the books they suggest. in our course, there are barely 2-3 students who fail to clear the exam but the curriculum is pretty relevant besides it not having any modern day economics present. the curriculum however is based on the fact that we get a knowledge about every topic in economics and the teachers henceforth encourage us to write research papers and study modern day economics based on those topics or our knowledge on economics in general.

Fees and Financial Aid

year wise fee i will be paying is roughly 75000, but for semester 2 1st insallment it cost me around 17000, with a segregated fee for computer lab, tuition fee, additional fee, development fee and the exam fee summing upto 16100 to be precise as follows: computer fee : 3000 tuition fee: 1500 other fee : 11600 Moreover, for other departments like Bcom (Bachelors of commerce), their 1st semester 1st installment fee is roughly 40000, inclusive of the admission fee and otherwise per semester installment wise it is roughly around 15000-20000 inclusive of the various subjects we will be studying and the college amenities which will be used in that session. Other courses like the Bcom Evening batch and other multimedia and biotechnology courses are on a higher side regarding their fee strucutre ranging from 60000-65000 as their semester 1 installment 1 fee. There are a number of scholarship availabilites depending on a students performance in a particular semester, year or subject as well.

Faculty

The student-teacher ratio in my college is very comfortable, and the majority of techers are friendly. If we are unsure, they are always willing to clarify even outside class. Personally, I preferred my Biology and Chemistry faculty the most since they taught very simply and practically and made learning enjoyable. Of course, some teachers tend to be sricter or more rapid in teaching, but overall, they are helpful. The exam pattern is semester or year basis with internal tests and practicals. the papers are tough so, students need to do regularly study. the marking is impartial because both theory and practical performance are marked.

Fees and Financial Aid

First Year Fees : The Total amount including tution fees, registration fees, admission fees, lab fees, devlopment fees, and other charges came around 15000- 18000 INR. Second Year Fees: The Total amount came around 15000-18000 INR. Third year Fees: The Total amount came around 15000-18000 INR. Totral Course Fee: The total cost for the 3- year B.Sc course amount to around 45000- 54000 altogether. Scholarship and Financial Aid: almost all students are eligible to recive CM Higher Education Scholarship that offers 5000 INR annual financial support deserving candidates.

Faculty

The faculty -to student ratio is fairly comfortable -classes never felt overcrowded and professors were approacable both in and outside lecture hours. I particularly like Dr. Rajnish sir and Dr. Khalid Raza, our cs faculty, very suporrtve and excellent faculty there were few faculties i feel less connected with who lacked engagement making learning feel mechanical. The Bsc curriculum is well struvtured and relevent but yes talking about marking it was fair but strict too . Internal marks mattered , so regularity pays off . Students did fail aroung 10-15% students struggled mostly in mathematics subjects
