    3 YEARS

Bachelor of Science in Physics, popularly known as B.Sc in physics is a 3 yearunder-graduateprogramme. Physics is a natural science that involves study of matter and its motion through space, timealong with similar concepts of energy or force.

The duration of the course is minimum 3 years and maximum 6 years.

The basic eligibility for this is an intermediate 10+2 in sciencewith physics, chemistry, mathematics/biology and English as compulsory subjects.

The average tuition fees for this course is around Rs.30, 000/- and may vary according to the criteria of universities.

After completing this course students can work as content developer, treasury management specialist, quality control manager, statistician etc.

What is B.Sc Physics about?

It deals in developing creative thinking skills amongst the students and the power of imagination to enable graduates to work in research industry for broader academic application. It provides skills required to gather information from resources and to use them appropriately.

What is the difference between B.Sc and B.Sc (Hons)?

B.Sc in Physics is an under-graduate course which takes 3 years of duration. The objective is to provide the students with foundation knowledge possible for a science based career. There is no such specialization in this course. Graduates from this course can find jobs in business, teaching, marketing, research.

B.Sc (Hons) in Physicsis an under-graduate three years degree program which develops advanced theoretical and research skills. It helps in building an advanced professional or academic career. There are several specializations in this course which the students can opt for, after completion.

The duration of this course is 3 years in most of the universities which is divided into 6 semesters. The maximum duration to which the course can extend in distance learning mode is 6 years.

Those universities that do not follow the semester system, have 3 terms which carry out examination in the end of each year.

Who should opt for B.Sc Physics?

Students who are interested in learning fundamentals of Physics and understand mathematical concepts easily can opt for this course, and those who have an analytical approach towards problem solving arenas can also opt for B.Sc Physics.

Academic Options after B.Sc Physics?

After completing B.Sc Physics successfully, students are eligible for pursuing a number of courses, some of which are M.Sc Physics/Applied Physics, MBA, M.Phil Physics, M.Sc. + Ph.D(Physics and Astrophysics) etc.

Where to study?

B.Sc Physics being a popular course is offered by Many Science Colleges InIndia, that provide great infrastructure and excellent faculty. Some of the best colleges are:

St Stephen’s College

New Delhi

Loyola College

Christ University

Fergusson College

St Xavier’s College

Nizam College

IGNOU offers B.Sc Physics (distance mode) of 3 years minimum and 6 years maximum.

Eligibility Of the Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Physics)

To seek admission in B.Sc Physics, the student must have cleared 10+2 with science subjects (PCM/PCB).

The percentage in 10+2 required for being eligible for the course may vary from college to college.

How to Get Admission in Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Physics)

Most of the colleges in India that offer B.Sc Physics give direct admission on the basis of marks obtained in 10+2, which is determined by the cut-off lists generated by each college. The student can seek admission if his marks match with the cut off announced by a college.

Delhi University announces at least 10 cut-off lists for this course.

Other universities like JamiaMiliaIslamia University, Delhi conduct an entrance test for admission to B.Sc/B.Sc(Hons.) Physics in which the skills tested are:

Lateral Entry for B.Sc Physics

Some universities like Annamalai University, give admission to 2nd year for which the candidate must have cleared 1st year with minimum 75% marks from a recognized university.

Distance Mode Admission

NIMS University, IGNOU, School of Open Learning are some institutions that offer distance learning for those who cannot attend full time classes.

Normal eligibility for B.Sc Physics is 10+2 which may vary in some institutes.
