Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus that affects the immune system of the human body. If it remains untreated, then it leads to the disease called AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) which can result in death from the infection. HIV is transferred through various ways such as unprotected sex, sharing needles or breastfeeding (in children). The life-threatening disease AIDS is the last stage of HIV infection. Initially, the symptoms of AIDS are fever, swollen lymph nodes, tiredness, rapid weight loss, night sweats and sores of the mouth, anus and genitals. Every year 1st December is regarded as World AIDS Day.
