Reservation of Quotas for IPU CET Counselling 2026

GGSIPU divides all available seats between the Delhi Region Quota (85%) and the Outside Delhi Quota (15%). Category reservations — SC, ST, OBC, EWS — apply within the Delhi Region Quota only. The Outside Delhi Quota is a General category-only pool with no further sub-division. Understanding which quota you qualify for before registering is critical, as both quotas operate as separate pools with independent seat matrices and closing ranks.

The Delhi Region Quota is determined by where your Class 12 school was located — not by your current residential address. If your Class 12 institution was physically located within NCT Delhi, or if you studied continuously in Delhi-recognised schools from Class 8 through Class 12, you qualify for the Delhi quota even without a formal domicile certificate in your name. Confirm your eligibility basis with the official GGSIPU admission helpdesk before registering under either quota.

Note: OBC certificates issued by any state other than NCT Delhi are NOT accepted under the Delhi Region Quota. Students holding out-of-state OBC certificates are classified as General category and compete in the General pool within the Delhi quota.

How to Apply for IPU CET Counselling 2026?

The counselling process for IPU CET 2026 runs entirely online on ipu.admissions.nic.in and proceeds through five sequential stages. Each stage has its own deadline; missing any one of them removes you from that round’s allotment pool. Complete all stages in time and keep screenshots and PDFs of every confirmation screen as proof.

Registering for counselling is mandatory — your IPU CET rank alone does not guarantee a seat. Admission is granted only to students who successfully complete the registration and choice-filling process on the portal within the notified window.

Step 1: Registration on the Portal

Visit ipu.admissions.nic.in and click "New Registration" for your CET code — for example, CET Code 131 for B.Tech, CET Code 116 for MBA, CET Code 126 for MCA, or the appropriate code for BBA / BCA / LLB. Enter your IPU CET Application Number, Date of Birth, and the other required fields. Students applying with JEE Main 2026 or CUET 2026 scores for B.Tech, or with CAT 2025 / CMAT 2026 scores for MBA, must register using their respective entrance-test roll numbers on the same portal. Step 2: Document Upload and Verification

After creating your counselling account, log in and upload scanned copies of all required documents — Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, IPU CET Rank Card (or JEE Main / CUET score card), domicile certificate, category certificate (if applicable), and Aadhaar Card. The portal assigns a "Verified" or "Pending" status to your submission. Some programmes conduct in-person document verification at designated helpdesk centres during the Round 2 counselling window — consult your programme-specific schedule on the portal. Your seat allotment in each round is conditional on successful document verification; an unresolved pending status can block your allotment entirely.

Step 3: Choice Filling

Once your account is active and documents are verified, log in and navigate to "Choice Filling" for your CET code. A list of all participating colleges and programmes appears, filtered by your category and quota. Arrange them strictly in order of your actual preference — most-preferred college–programme combination at the top, least-preferred at the bottom. Fill at least 15–20 choices to maximise your chances across all rounds. The allotment algorithm processes your list in the exact ranked order you submit and assigns the highest-preference option with an available seat matching your rank and quota. Step 4: Seat Acceptance

After each round’s allotment result is declared, log in to the portal and review your allotted seat. You must select one of four options within the specified acceptance deadline:

• Freeze: Accept the allotted seat as final and exit all future counselling rounds permanently.
• Float: Accept the current seat and remain eligible for a better preference in the next round; your current seat is protected even if no upgrade materialises.
• Slide: Seek an upgrade to a higher-ranked branch within the same allotted college during the Sliding Round; your current seat is retained if no eligible upgrade is available.
• Withdraw: Surrender the allotted seat and exit counselling entirely; the ₹40,000 part academic fee, once paid, is not refunded.

After selecting your option, pay the part academic fee of ₹40,000 online — via net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI — to confirm seat acceptance. Failure to pay within the acceptance deadline results in automatic cancellation of the allotment, and the seat moves to the next eligible student.

Step 5: Reporting to the Allotted College

After paying the ₹40,000 acceptance fee, you must physically report to your allotted college on the notified reporting dates. Carry all original documents along with two sets of self-attested photocopies, the allotment letter downloaded from ipu.admissions.nic.in, and the fee payment receipt. The college’s admission committee verifies your originals, collects the remaining semester fee (adjusted against the ₹40,000 advance), and issues an enrolment confirmation slip. Failing to report to your allotted college within the notified reporting window results in automatic and permanent cancellation of your admission — GGSIPU does not extend individual reporting deadlines or provide grace periods.

How to Lock Your Choices – Step-by-Step Guide

Locking your preference list finalises your choices for the current counselling round. Follow these steps carefully on ipu.admissions.nic.in. Any editing or reordering must be completed before you click Lock — after locking, no further changes are allowed within that round.

Step 1: Log In to Your Counselling Account

• Open ipu.admissions.nic.in and click "Applicant Login."
• Enter your User ID and Password (created during registration) and solve the CAPTCHA.
• Click Login to reach your counselling dashboard.

Step 2: Navigate to Choice Filling

• On your dashboard, click "Choice Filling and Locking" under your relevant CET code.
• The portal displays all colleges and programme combinations available under your CET code, quota, and category.

Step 3: Add and Arrange Your Preferences

• Search for colleges by name or scroll through the full list and click "Add" to include each preferred college–programme pair.
• Drag and re-order entries so your most-preferred option is at the top and your least-preferred is at the bottom.
• Add a minimum of 15–20 choices covering a spread of colleges and branches within your acceptable range.

Step 4: Preview and Edit

• Click "Preview" to review your complete ranked preference list before locking.
• Make any corrections — reorder, add, or remove choices — until you are satisfied.
• Choices can be edited freely during the open choice-filling window; once locked, they cannot be changed in that round.

Step 5: Lock Your Choices

• Click "Lock Choices" at the bottom of the preference screen.
• A confirmation dialogue appears — read it carefully and click Confirm to proceed.
• Download and save the PDF of your locked preference list as a record for future reference.

Once confirmed, your choices are locked for the current round. For the Sliding Round (Phase 3), GGSIPU provides a brief choice-editing window before the allotment runs — July 6–8, 2026 was the editing window for this session. Check the portal for any such window in subsequent rounds.

IPU CET Counselling Documents Required 2026

You need two sets of documents for IPU CET 2026 counselling: scanned copies uploaded on the portal during registration, and originals carried to the allotted college on the reporting date. Prepare both sets well before the counselling window opens — category certificate discrepancies are among the most common causes of admission cancellation at the reporting stage.

Note: All original documents must be presented in person at the allotted college on the reporting date. Admission will be cancelled if any document is found to be missing, inconsistent, or invalid at the time of physical verification — even if your documents were marked "Verified" on the portal.

How Much Money is Needed for IPU CET Counselling 2026?

IPU CET 2026 counselling involves fees at two distinct stages: an online payment to confirm your seat after each allotment, and institute-level charges collected when you report in person. Knowing which amounts are non-refundable and which are recoverable helps you plan your finances before each round’s acceptance window opens.

Non-Refundable Fees

The fees below, once paid, are not returned under any circumstance — not even if you withdraw before reporting to the college.

If you withdraw after accepting a seat and paying the ₹40,000 part academic fee, that fee is not refunded under any circumstances. The only amount that follows the UGC Refund Policy is the caution / security deposit paid directly at the college.

Refundable Fees / Caution Deposit

A security or caution deposit is collected at the college on your reporting date. This deposit is entirely separate from the ₹40,000 online acceptance fee and is subject to partial or full refund depending on your withdrawal timing. The amount varies by college and programme, typically ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹20,000.

Note: The ₹40,000 part academic fee paid during online seat acceptance on ipu.admissions.nic.in is non-refundable in all scenarios — including withdrawal before the reporting date. Only the caution deposit collected at the college follows the UGC Refund Policy.

Round-Wise Seat Allotment for IPU CET 2026

GGSIPU runs seat allotment in multiple rounds across different programme tracks. Each round fills seats vacated by withdrawals or left unfilled from the previous round. Students who chose Float in any round carry forward to the next round automatically — no re-registration or additional fee is required. The table below maps each round to its programme track, key dates, and current status as of July 21, 2026.

Key distinction between the Sliding Round and a regular allotment round: In a regular round (Round 1, Round 2), a student may receive a new seat in any college from their preference list, potentially a different institution from their current allotment. In the Sliding Round, movement is restricted to a higher-preference branch within the same allotted college. If no eligible upgrade within the same college is available, the student retains the Round 1 seat without any loss — making the Sliding Round a zero-risk upgrade opportunity for students who chose Float in Round 1.

Students who chose Freeze in Round 1 are not eligible for the Sliding Round and proceed directly to college reporting. Students who Float but receive no upgrade in the Sliding Round continue to Round 2 with their Round 1 seat intact, still eligible for a further upgrade.

Reporting to College After IPU CET Seat Allotment

Physical reporting is the final and mandatory step of IPU CET counselling. After paying the ₹40,000 part academic fee online, you must visit your allotted college within the reporting window specified for your round. The college verifies your original documents, collects any remaining dues, and formally enrols you. A seat is not considered confirmed until you have completed in-person reporting.

• Carry all original documents listed in the Documents Required section, plus two sets of self-attested photocopies of each document.
• Carry the allotment letter downloaded from ipu.admissions.nic.in — the college requires it as proof of your GGSIPU seat allotment.
• Carry the fee payment receipt for the ₹40,000 part academic fee paid on the portal.
• On-the-spot document verification is conducted by the college’s admission committee; any discrepancy — mismatch in name spelling, date of birth, marks, or an invalid category certificate — will delay or cancel your enrolment.
• After successful verification, the college issues an admission acknowledgement slip or enrolment number — this is your official confirmation of admission.
• The balance semester fee (over and above the ₹40,000 advance) is typically collected at the college on or shortly after the reporting date.
• If you report but later decide to withdraw, submit a written withdrawal application at the college; the refund of the caution deposit then follows the UGC Refund Policy timeline.

The Sliding Round (Phase 3) reporting window for 2026 was July 14–17. Students allotted seats in MBA Round 2, MCA Round 2, or any subsequent round must check their programme-specific reporting dates on ipu.admissions.nic.in — different programme tracks carry different reporting windows, and the B.Tech reporting dates do not apply to MBA or MCA allotments.

Freeze, Float, Slide or Withdraw – Which Option to Choose?

After every round’s allotment result, you must select one of four acceptance options within the specified deadline. Your choice determines whether you stay in future rounds, whether your current seat is safe, and what happens to your fees if your plans change. The decision is final for that round and cannot be reversed after the deadline passes.

Float is almost always the safer choice over Freeze when you have unsatisfied higher preferences on your list. It costs nothing extra, protects your current seat, and can only move you upward — never down. The practical difference between Float and Slide is scope: Float can move you to any higher-preference college or branch across your full list, while Slide is limited strictly to a better branch within the same already-allotted college. In most cases, Float gives you more options; choose Slide only when you specifically want to stay at the same institution.
