NATA Eligibility 2019; Qualification Marks, Age Limit, Attempts

NATA 2019 Eligibility Criteria has been revised. These are the set of rules that a candidate is required to satisfy in order to appear for the NATA. These criteria are laid out by Council of Architecture (CoA). It is necessary to satisfy the standards in order to fill in NATA Application Form. The Council of Architecture (COA) will conduct NATA 2019 tentatively in the last week of April, 2019.

NATA Eligibility Criteria

  • One must have graduated Class XII in order to appear for NATA Exam
  • It is mandatory to have Mathematics as main subjects in Class XII.
  • Special category candidates will be eligible to participate in the counselling procedure after providing their category certificate. Check NATA Counselling

NATA 2019 is conducted by CoA (Council of Architecture). It is a national level entrance exam that measures a candidate’s aptitude in the field of Architecture. The exam is taken for admissions to the 5 years B. Arch. Programs offered by NATA Scores accepting Institutes. Successfully registered candidates who meet the criteria will be allowed to take the test.

Who can take NATA 2019?

NATA 2019 is an entrance test for candidates seeking to get admission into 1st year of undergraduate degree course in Architecture in India.

The test is designed to assess a candidate’s observation skills, drawing skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and the ability of an applicant to think critically, which are altogether an important concept for getting admission in Bachelor of Architecture. A student must possess these qualities to qualify NATA 2019 with a good score.

As NATA Score is used by admission authorities of different Government, Government aided and unaided schools or colleges that offer Bachelor degree in Architecture. NATA is taken to provide a common base to compare the qualifications of the candidates, in addition to their scores in the qualifying examination.


NATA Eligibility Criteria

To become eligible for NATA a candidate is required to fulfill a certain set of eligibility conditions. Mentioned below are the predefined criteria set up by the conducting bodies:

General Criteria 

  • The lower age limit for appearing in NATA has been waived. However, the candidate has to comply with any age constraints that may be specified by respective Counselling/ Admission Authority.
  • To fill the ‘Total Marks’ and ‘Obtained Marks’ fields for Class 10th Standard has become Optional now. 
  • In view of 10th Std Grade cards from which marks is not easily obtainable, Application Form fields "Total Marks", "Obtained Marks" are made Optional.
  • Candidates who have passed his/her Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or equivalent exam, having Mathematics as one of the subjects are eligible to appear for NATA 2019.
  • Candidates who have passed 10+3 diploma with 50% marks in aggregate in any stream from Central/ State Government are also eligible to apply for NATA. Mathematics is a compulsory subject for this as well. 
  • He/she must have secured at least 50% marks in aggregate in SSC/10+2 or equivalent examination. The marks cannot be rounded off, as if the candidate has secured 49.9% marks in his/her qualifying exam then the marks would be counted as 49.9% only.
  • Score of NATA 2019 is valid for a period of 24 months i.e. 2 years from the date a candidate appears for NATA exam. After that he/she has to again register for the next NATA exam and has to get a valid NATA Score/Rank
  • For students of international/ NRI status, NATA 2019 Eligibility remains the same as it is for the Indian nationals. There is no separate set of Eligibility parameters set for international/NRI candidates who wants to appear for NATA 2019

For Admission to B.Arch. Course

  • A candidate who has qualified a recognized Aptitude test in Architecture (NATA or equivalent) in 2019 are eligible.
  • Candidates who have cleared NATA 2016 can also participate in the exam.
  • There is no provision of direct lateral admission in any year or at any stage of B. Arch. course, under any circumstances or on the basis of any qualification.
  • There is no change in NATA 2019 eligibility for SC/ST/OBC or any other special category candidates as well. However, students can ask for reservation schemes while applying for admissions under various admission authorities. 
  • Also, the criterion mentioned in the General Criteria is applicable for this as well. 

Note: Candidates are informed, no direct lateral admission is allowed at any year/stage of B.Arch. course based on any qualification.

Ques. What is NATA Eligibility for admission to B.Arch. and can students with mathematics and commerce as their subject are eligible to appear for NATA?

Ans. The eligibility for admission, it is necessary to have a minimum of 50% marks in 10+ 2 in any stream (Commerce/ PCM) with maths as a subject and 40% marks in NATA Exam.

Ques. What is the age limit of NATA?

Ans. There is no age limit to take the admission in NATA. The candidate may have to register any age limit that the admission authority may have decided.

Ques. I am not satisfied with my NATA score. Can I apply again for the architecture examination?

Ans. Yes, the candidate can reappear for NATA for 5 times within the period of the last score card, but the candidate needs to register themselves again every time when they reappear.

Ques. Can an NRI student eligible to take exam from his/her country of residence?

Ans. No, the candidate needs to register in India for NATA exam and need to appear from any allocated center in India. Admissions are given to the candidates as per the guidelines.

Ques. If I belong to SC/ST category. Am I eligible to get score waiver?

Ans. No, as per the guidelines no waiver is allotted to any candidate.

Ques. What is the validity of NATA Scores?

 Ans. NATA scores are eligible for only one year.

Ques. Can a candidate take admission direct through lateral entry in B. Arch?

Ans. No, candidate cannot take admission direct through lateral entry in any year of B. Arch.

Ques.Can the candidate get admission in B.Arch without giving NATA?

A18. No, if the candidate has not given NATA then he/she will not be able to get admission in any of the architecture colleges in India. They can try for management seats for some colleges and can take admission.

Ques. Is NATA score compulsory to get admission?

A19. Yes, its depends on college to college. but most of the good colleges select the candidates through the marks they got in 12th NATA or JEE Mains paper 2.

Hi Khushi, The basic eligibility is Candidates who have passed his/her Senior Secondary Examination (12th) or equivalent exam, having Mathematics as one of the subjects are eligible to appear for NATA 2019.
