Refugee Blues Summary
- Let’s assume there are ten million people in this city. Living in mansions and slums. But there’s nowhere for us to live.
- We belong to a beautiful nation. But we can’t go there anymore.
- An old yew tree outside the village church grows and blooms every spring. But our old passports don’t blossom.
- The immigration official yelled saying we are legally dead without a passport. But we’re still living.
- I went to a committee for help and they told me to wait for a year. But where will we go for now?
- I even went to a political rally and the speaker said “If we let the refugees enter our country, they’ll take our food.” He was talking about us. And Hitler said we must die.
- I saw people roaming in a jacket with a brooch. But they were not German Jews.
- I saw the fishes in the harbor freely swimming ten feet away from me.
