Class 10 Science Chapter 14 Sources of Energy: Important Topics

The chapters revolve around various sources of energy which are categorized into renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. Energy is the ability to do work. It exists in many forms and can be converted from one form of energy into another. Energy is available from nature in the form of many sources that are known as sources of energy. 

  • Poison’s Ratio

Poisson's ratio is the measure of the deformation in the material in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the applied force. Poisson's ratio, essentially, is one measure of a rock's strength that is another critical rock property related to closure stress. Moreover, Poisson's ratio is dimensionless and ranges between 0.1 and 0.45.

  • Nuclear Fusion

Nuclear Fusion reactions power the Sun and other stars. Two light nuclei merge to form a single heavier nucleus in a fusion reaction. The process releases energy as the total mass of the resulting single nucleus is less than the mass of the two original nuclei.

  • Non-renewable Energy

Non-renewable energy is the one that does not renew itself at a sufficient rate for sustainable economic extraction in meaningful human time-frames. This energy is limited resources that will eventually run out over the time frame and is from fossil fuels such as coal, crude oil, natural gas, and uranium.
