The Rhodes Trust has opened the 2027 Rhodes Scholarship for India on 1 June 2026. The award offers five fully funded places to Indian students at the University of Oxford. The Trust set the portal deadline at 23:59 IST on 23 July 2026, with entry in October 2027. The five India slots are place based, so candidates compete only within the India constituency.

  • Five Rhodes Scholarships are open to Indian citizens for the October 2027 Oxford intake.
  • Applications close at 23:59 IST on 23 July 2026, a window of just over seven weeks.
  • The award pays all Oxford course fees plus a living stipend of £20,400 a year for 2025-26.

Indian students have won the Rhodes since 1947, with over two hundred awarded to date. The India selection is overseen by National Secretary Dr Dhvani Mehta.

What the Rhodes Scholarship 2027 Covers for Indian Students

The Rhodes is a fully funded postgraduate award at Oxford. It removes the biggest barriers to studying in the UK. For Indian families weighing rising study-abroad costs, it covers the full bill.

The Trust pays all University of Oxford course fees in full. It also gives a living stipend of £20,400 a year. At ₹127 per GBP (June 2026), that is about ₹25.9 lakh a year, or ₹1,700 a month in pounds.

What the Rhodes Covers Detail
Oxford course fees Paid in full for the degree term
Annual stipend £20,400 (about ₹25.9 lakh) for 2025-26
Monthly living support £1,700 (about ₹2.16 lakh)
Other costs Flights and UK visa charges covered

What it means for Indian Students: The award covers fees, stipend, flights and visa charges together. Few UK funding routes match this full cover, so the Rhodes stays a top target.

Rhodes Scholarship 2027 Eligibility for Indian Applicants

Eligibility for the India constituency is strict and non-negotiable. Check every condition before you start the form. The Trust accepts only Indian citizens through this route.

  • You must be an Indian citizen with a valid Indian passport.
  • OCI and PIO cardholders cannot apply through the India category.
  • You must have studied in India for four of the last ten years.
  • You need an undergraduate degree completed by July 2027.
  • Your grades must meet or exceed your chosen Oxford course requirements.

The Trust notes a First Class Honours degree strengthens your case. If English is not your first language, you must meet Oxford's higher-level English requirements.

Important Note: No more than one of the five India awards may go to candidates who studied outside India or apply through the inter-jurisdictional route. The quota tightens odds for that group.

You apply for the Rhodes before you apply to Oxford courses. The form asks for your contact and education details. It also asks for your university transcripts and your intended Oxford course or courses.
