New Delhi: The Ministry of Education’s innovation cell has released the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) Ranking 2021. The results were declared for 7 categories on the official website, ariia.gov.in.

ARIIA Ranking 2021 has a special framework for non-technical institutions, which helps strengthen the Indian education institutions' innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem. Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India introduced ‘Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA)’ in 2018, with the purpose of systematically ranking colleges and universities primarily on indicators related to innovation.

ARIIA Ranking 2021: Key Highlights

  • Dr Subhas Sarkar, Hon'ble Minister of State for Education, Government of India made the announcements of ARIIA Ranking 2021.
  • This year, ARIIA has included a new category for non-technical higher educational institutions.
  • About 1,438 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) participated in this edition of ARIIA Ranking 2021.
  • IIT Madras secured the position of the best centrally funded technical institution for innovation, consecutively for the second time.
  • In the newly introduced category of Non-technical Institute of National Importance, Central Universities & CFTIscategory, IGNOU has secured the top position.
  • Panjab University has topped the list of top Government and Government-aided universities, while KIIT University stood as the best Private or Self-Financed University in India.

ARIIA Ranking 2021 was e-released on December 29, 2021 for two major categories, Technical and Non-Technical. The technical category has 5 sub-categories: 

  • CFTIs, Central University, & Institute of National Importance, 
  • State University & Deemed University (Govt. & Govt. Aided), 
  • Govt. College/Institution (Govt. & Govt. Aided), 
  • University & Deemed University (Self-Finance/Private)
  • Private College/Institute (Self-Finance/Private).

The non-technical higher educational institutions category has been subdivided into CFIs/Central University/Institute of National Importance (Non-Technical) and General (Non-Technical).

ARIIA Ranking 2021: Institute of National Importance, Central Universities & CFTIs

Tabulated below is the Institute of National Importance, Central Universities & CFTIs and its ranks. IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, and IIT Delhi have retained the same rank as compared to last year.

This year, the IISc Bangalore's rank has dropped from fourth to sixth. While IIT Kharagpur has gone from fifth rank to eight rank. IIT Kanpur has increased its rank 6 from rank 4 in ARIIA Ranking 2021. 

IIT Hyderabad and Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology were the new entries for the ARIIA rankings 2021, which stood at rank 7 and rank 10. Whereas, IIT Mandi and University of Hyderabad failed to grab its position in the top 10 rank holders of ARIIA. 

ARIIA Ranking 2021: Government and Government-aided Universities Rank Holders

This year, Panjab University rose from second rank to first rank. DTU stood at 2nd rank, Avinashillingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for women stood at 5th rank, who were the new entries in the ARIIA Ranking 2021. Whereas, Institute of Chemical Technology which stood at 1st position was significantly dropped to 6th position. 

Periyar University and Anand Agricultural University failed to grab their ranks in the list of ARIIA Rankings 2021. Gujarat Technical University dropped its rank from 5th to 7th and Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University from 3rd to 4th. On the other hand, Netaji Subhas University of Technology rose from fifth to third rank. 

ARIIA Ranking 2021: Govt and Govt Aided College/Institute

ARIIA Ranking 2021: Private or Self-Financed Universities

In the ARIIA Rankings 2021, Kalinga Institute of Technology retained its topmost position, while Chitkara University, KIET Group of Institutions, Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology and Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology were the new entrants which were ranked from second to fifth. 

In contrast, SRM Institute of Technology, VIT, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeeth, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology failed to make their presence in the list of ARIIA Rankings 2021.
