M.Phil. Biochemistry is a 2 years full time post graduate course which is divided into 4 semesters. Biochemistry is the study of the chemical processes that drive biological systems. The course leading to the degree of M.Phil. is essentially research-based and does not involve assessed instructional courses. Candidates are based in a research group and undertake research on a topic agreed with the principal investigator. They also have an Advisor and a Graduate Thesis Panel, as in the Ph.D. student programme.
Students write an M.Phil. thesis, is examined via an oral examination involving an Internal and External Examiner. The aim of the M.Phil. is to give candidates a solid grounding in modern biochemical and biomedical research techniques and practical experience of a full-time experimental research project. This aims to give experience working as part of a team in an academic environment and gaining skills in scientific communication through both oral presentations and writing.
This course involves a series of lectures covering a variety of useful experimental techniques used in biochemistry and molecular biology. Eligibility for M.Phil. programme will have a Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent grade in a point scale.
An Entrance Test like NET, GATE, ICMR, GPAT, and SLET will be conducted in the discipline of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management in any other disciplines followed by an interview with regard to their research interest or area by the concerned School or Department.
