Kinetics, as well as kinematics, are considered as a part of classical mechanics which are associated with the motion of objects in different spaces. Kinetics implies the study of forces that cause motion, whereas kinematics refers to the mathematical description of motion without the consideration of the force that causes the motion.

In our regular life, we perceive various activities around us. For example, a cricket ball going down a slope, a car running down the street, moving animals, flowing rivers, people walking, etc. Such movements and the study of movements of these objects in simple terms is termed, Mechanics. Students tend to confuse these two terms (kinetics and kinematics) considering them as synonyms of each other. Thus, it is important for them to find the difference between kinetics and kinematics.
What is Kinetics?
Kinetics is also referred to as “dynamics”. It is termed as an arm of science that deals with WHY’S physics. It’s a branch of physics, which deals mainly with inspecting the power and forces on an object. For example, when it comes to a spinning motion, we usually do compute TORQUE. This Kinetics Newton’s Law of Motion is functional to study an object’s motion. While learning this topic, students are asked to draw the force illustrations/ diagrams using vector math to determine values like the direction of acceleration, net force, etc. It can be termed as the sub-category of classical mechanics known as forces.

What is Kinematics?
Kinematics is connected to the motion of any object that exists in the world. The word “Kinema” means motion. It refers to the study of how motion, moving, and passing works. It describes and briefly explains the motion of an object. Its definitions will explain the real-world objects and their motion. Some crucial factors and parameters in kinematics are velocities, time, displacement. Some famous and popular examples of motion are horizontal motion, vertical motion, projectile motion.

Both Kinetics and Kinematics are important branches of Mechanics. They do assist the physicists to recognize and understand the motion’s nature in different ways and consequently to determine values depending on what we are studying. These two branches are complementary to each other.
It is the fact that, without the branch of Kinetics, Physicists wouldn’t be able to answer any questions that are related to motion. For example, A physicist will require equations with a strong and accurate understanding of forces to find the origin of the acceleration pulling a ball thrown back to the ground.
