IIM Ahmedabad Increases Reservation for EWS
In 2019, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) had released guidelines to reserve 10% of total seats for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in all the IIMs.
Following the MHRD guidelines, IIM Ahmedabad allocated ten seats to the EWS candidates, beginning from the academic year 2020-21.
The officials at IIM Ahmedabad said that the institute would gradually increase the number of seats to reach the 10% mark. Adding to this they also said that the admission process for the flagship PGP MBA course at IIM Ahmedabad would reflect the changes.
Professor Vishal Gupta, presiding chairperson of admissions IIM Ahmedabad, declared that 430 admission letters have been sent for PGP course and 47 admission letters have been posted for PGP Food and Agri-Business Management (PGP-FABM).
The total size of the batch would include 395 students. However, the institute is yet to examine the number of candidates from Gujarat who have qualified the process.
Similar to last year count, 79% who made it to IIM-A are from engineering backgrounds. This year, out of total selected candidates 23% are women.
Following the admission criteria, the selection has been based on CAT score, personal interviews, analytical writing test and grades received in classes 10, 12 nad bachelor degrees. The interviews were conducted face to face before the nationwide lockdown.
