Remarks

I applied to Jamia Millia Islamia and Banaras Hindu University. I Prefer the former in B.A Economics as the course structure was far more rigorous, Systematic, Mathematical, and Knowledge oriented at par with the syllabus of the University of Delhi.JMI is a Muslim Minority Central University and hence 50% of total seats are reserved for different categories like Muslim obc/st, Muslim Women, Kashmiri Migrants, Pwd and jamia internal. You have to score at least 50% aggregate in class 12 to be eligible for this course. Admission is done on the basis of entrance tests (common for B.A ECO Hons ,B COM Hons and BBA) conducted by the university. The entrance consists of 100 questions divided into English-20,Gk-40(special emphasis on Economics),reasoning-20,and maths-20. Each question carries 1 mark and negative of 0.25 for the wrong ones. The cutoff depends upon the difficulty level of questions, but it generally remains above 65 due to the high competition and limited seats.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

JMI Ba Hons in Economics is well recognized in the country due to its well Structured Syllabus and the in-depth knowledge it provides. The course is Well designed in such a way that Non-Mathematics background can also cope up and give stiff competition to students who studied Maths. If you are a Maths student in class 12 Kindly grasp up the Calculus as it is very much needed to ace this course. The Teachers here are a mixture of average ones to few having exceptional teaching style.Overall teaching can be said to be above average but teachers are eager to help you out whenever doubt arises.I got my admission in december 2020 and my 1st semester was conducted within 4 months but 2 months have passed result has not been declared yet. the paper was easy to moderate and I think most of the students will pass .

Placement Experience

2.5

Our department has a dedicated Placement cell but it offers nothing or very few offers are offered. Most students choose higher education such as master's, MBA, or Start preparing for various Government services and Civil services. Few Students are offered placement in the range of 4 to 5 lakhs per annum. After Graduating I will go for Masters's for better prospects.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since it is a Central University it has low fees of 7200 per year. Different Scholarship is also provided to unprivileged students who can't afford their fees . Our department has a placement cell but it offers very few placements for undergraduates and the majority choose higher studies. The return on investment is high in this course.

Campus Life

4

The campus of JMI is huge with lush green beauty all around. It represents mini India as students from different parts of India come to study here. There is a dedicated Central library with lakhs of books, journals, resources and it also houses rare manuscripts.JMI sports culture and Infrastructure are famous throughout India. It has all sorts of sports equipment and facility, Pataudi sports complex is a well-known stadium in jamia. ECOCRACY is the annual feast of our department which is the most happening event among all the fest of Jamia. Different programme and fest is regularly held at the campus by different departments and society as told by our seniors. Since the college is closed due to Pandemic, I haven't tasted any programs and. There are Plenty of societies to enhance your skills and passion according to your needs. NSS , ENACTUS , GAEE, DEBATING CLUB, JOURNALISM SOCIETY , PHOTOGRAPHY etc

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
