Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Polymer Technology)

    4 YEARS

    Polymer Engineering

B.Tech in Polymer Technology (B.Tech PT) is an undergraduate course in synthesis, process and design of Polymer materials like plastics, rubber latex and composites. The minimum eligibility for this course requires passing class 12th/ Higher Secondary Examinationin Chemistry, Maths and Physics with a minimum of 50% marks.

B. Tech PT is a course completed over a span of four year just like any other engineering course. This course is often found with different names in different universities. The mode of admission is through State/ National/ University Joint Entrance Examination.

The average annual tuition fee for this course ranges between 35 thousand INR to 1 Lakh INR.

B. Tech PTgraduates can find employment in polymer industries, automotive industries, Engineering Plants, Chemical industries, petroleum industries etc. The job profiles for graduates of this course can be research scientist, R&D Executive, Design Engineer, Corporate Sales manager, Quality Control Executive etc. A fresh graduate of this course can expect an annual salary of between 1.5 Lakh INR – 3 Lakhs INR which would only increase with experience in the field.

What is the course about?

B.Tech PTis a course on the different polymer materials; their production, design, synthesis and distribution. Materials like plastics, rubber, paints, sealants, foams, adhesives are an important part of modern technology.

This course will impart knowledge on polymer materials, their properties, manufacturing process and application and will also help the students gain understanding of issues within the polymer industry.

Since B.Tech PTis an engineering course, the duration of the course is four years. The course follows a semester system over annual mode and hence the course consists of eight semesters.  For lateral entry students, the duration of the course is three years and six semesters.

Where to study?

There are few Engineering Colleges in India which offer B.Tech.PT. Some of the colleges for B.Tech PT are as follows:

  • Kamaraj College of Engineering & Technology, Chennai
  • Hindustan University, Chennai
  • Department of Polymer Science and Rubber Technology, Kerala
  • Department of Polymer Science & Technology, University of Calcutta
  • Anna University of  Technology, Tirunelvelli
  • B.S. Abdur Rahman University, Chennai

Academic Options after B.Tech

After this undergraduate course, students can apply for M.Tech Polymer Technology and also Ph.D in Polymer Science and Technology.

Admission to M.Tech is also through an Entrance Examination such asGATE. M.Tech and Ph.D courses are available in colleges like Cochin University of Science and Technology, Anna University of Technologyetc.

Eligibility Of the Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Polymer Technology)

The minimum eligibility for this course requires, passing the higher secondary school certificate (10+2)examination with science subject such as maths, physics, and chemistry.

Minimum percentage of marks in class 12/ higher secondary Examination is generally from45% to 50 %.

Since most institutions have an Entrance Exam, the students who have appeared in Higher Secondary Examination and are awaiting results can apply too.

How to Get Admission in Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Polymer Technology)

Many colleges have a Common Entrance Examination which leads to the admission to the B.Tech PTcourse.

If the candidate is eligible, students can follow the process given below.
