CMAT 2027 (Common Management Admission Test) is a national-level MBA entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBA, PGDM, and other postgraduate management programmes at more than 1,000 AICTE-approved colleges across India. As of today, NTA has not released the official CMAT 2027 notification — it is expected in October 2026 on the official website exams.nta.ac.in/CMAT. In the previous cycle, CMAT 2026 was held on January 25, 2026, with more than 53,000 candidates registered across 110 cities.
- CMAT 2027 Notification: The official notification is expected in October 2026. Last year, NTA released the CMAT 2026 notification in September 2025 and opened registration shortly after on cmat.nta.nic.in.
- CMAT 2027 Registration: Registration is expected to open in the second week of October 2026 and close by late November 2026. In CMAT 2026, the registration window closed on November 24, 2025, giving candidates about 6–8 weeks to apply.
- CMAT 2027 Exam Date: The exam is expected around January 24, 2027, in a single-shift CBT format from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. CMAT 2026 was held on January 25, 2026, across 259 exam centres in 110 cities.
- CMAT 2027 Result: The result is expected in mid-February 2027. In 2026, NTA declared the CMAT result on February 17, 2026 — around 23 days after the exam date.
What is CMAT 2027?
CMAT stands for Common Management Admission Test. NTA conducts it every year on behalf of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The exam is the gateway to MBA and PGDM programmes at more than 1,000 AICTE-approved business schools in India.
CMAT is a computer-based test of 3 hours. It has 100 questions across five sections: Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, General Awareness, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. The maximum score is 400 marks.
The exam is conducted once a year, typically in January. Unlike CAT, which is the primary benchmark for IIMs, CMAT is a preferred route for candidates targeting top management colleges in Maharashtra (such as JBIMS, SIMSREE, PUMBA) and other AICTE-approved institutes across India. In CMAT 2026, more than 53,000 candidates registered and 41,872 appeared — making it one of the important national MBA entrance tests in the country.
CMAT scores are valid for one academic year. Top CMAT colleges shortlist candidates based on their percentile and then call them for Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), and/or Written Ability Test (WAT) rounds.

CMAT 2027 Syllabus
The CMAT 2027 syllabus covers five sections. NTA has not prescribed a rigid topic list — the syllabus below is based on the CMAT information bulletin and previous year question papers. Use this as your preparation framework.
Section 1: Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation (QT & DI)
This section tests numerical ability and comfort with data. It includes both pure math and data-reading questions.
- Number System and HCF & LCM
- Percentages, Profit & Loss, Simple and Compound Interest
- Time & Work, Time, Speed & Distance
- Averages, Ratio & Proportion, Mixtures & Alligation
- Permutation & Combination, Probability
- Geometry, Mensuration (2D and 3D)
- Data Interpretation — Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Line Graphs, Tables, Caselets
- Data Sufficiency
Section 2: Logical Reasoning
This section checks how well you can analyse patterns, make deductions, and solve puzzles under time pressure.
- Series — Number Series, Alphabet Series
- Analogy and Classification
- Coding-Decoding
- Blood Relations and Direction & Distance
- Syllogisms and Statement-Conclusion / Statement-Assumption
- Input-Output and Seating Arrangement

- Para-Jumbles and Para Completion
- Fill in the Blanks (single and double)
- Sentence Correction and Error Spotting

- Finance and Banking — banking terms, financial institutions
- Government Schemes and Policies
- Awards, Honours, and Appointments
- Sports News — major tournaments, records
- Science and Technology — recent developments
- History, Polity, and Geography — basic static GK
Section 5: Innovation & Entrepreneurship
This section is unique to CMAT. It covers business innovation concepts, startup culture, and government schemes for entrepreneurs. Many candidates find it scoring because it requires conceptual awareness rather than complex problem-solving.
- Concepts of Innovation — types, models, design thinking
- Entrepreneurship — definitions, types (social, tech, rural), startup lifecycle
- Government Schemes — Startup India, Make in India, Mudra Yojana, Atal Innovation Mission
- Venture Capital and funding stages
- Famous Entrepreneurs and their companies (Indian and global)

Based on CMAT 2026 timelines, the provisional answer key for CMAT 2027 is expected in late January 2027, and the final answer key will be released in February 2027 before the result.
If NTA drops a question or changes an answer after reviewing challenges, all candidates’ scores are recalculated using the final answer key.
CMAT 2027 Result
The CMAT 2027 result is expected in mid-February 2027 on the official NTA portal. In CMAT 2026, the result was declared on February 17, 2026 — 23 days after the January 25, 2026 exam. A similar timeline is expected for CMAT 2027.
What the CMAT Scorecard Shows
The CMAT scorecard shows your performance across all five sections. Here is what you will find on it:
- Overall Score (out of 400) and Overall Percentile
- Section-wise raw scores for all five sections
- Section-wise percentile ranks
- All India Rank (AIR)
- Candidate details — name, application number, roll number, category
How to Download the CMAT 2027 Scorecard
- Visit exams.nta.ac.in/CMAT once the result is declared.
- Click on “Result / Scorecard”.
- Enter your Application Number and Date of Birth.
- Download and save your CMAT 2027 scorecard as a PDF.
The CMAT scorecard is valid for one academic year (2027–28). There is no physical copy sent by NTA — download it and take printouts as required for college applications.
No separate rank card is issued for CMAT. Your All India Rank (AIR) is printed directly on the scorecard itself. Use this to apply to colleges after the result is declared.
CMAT 2027 Score vs Percentile
CMAT scores are converted into percentiles. Your percentile tells you how many candidates scored equal to or below you. Since only around 40,000–55,000 candidates appear for CMAT each year, even small score differences can result in large percentile jumps at the top end — this is very different from CAT, where more than 3 lakh candidates appear.
CMAT 2026 Score vs Percentile: Reference Table for 2027 Preparation
The table below is based on CMAT 2026 actual score-percentile trends. Use it to set your CMAT 2027 target score.
| CMAT Score (out of 400) | Approximate Percentile | Expected AIR Range |

This is an indicative list. Many more AICTE-approved colleges across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and other states also accept CMAT scores. Check the official AICTE list for the complete set of participating institutes for CMAT 2027.
CMAT 2027 Counselling Process
Unlike NEET or JEE, there is no single national-level counselling for CMAT. Each participating college runs its own admission process independently. However, Maharashtra has a structured state-level counselling through the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE Maharashtra) for government and government-aided management colleges.
DTE Maharashtra Counselling for CMAT 2027
DTE Maharashtra counselling covers top colleges including JBIMS, SIMSREE, PUMBA, and others. Based on CMAT 2026 timelines, this counselling is expected to begin from March 2027.
- Step 1 — Separate Registration on DTE Portal: Eligible candidates must register on the DTE Maharashtra portal. This registration is different from your NTA CMAT registration.
- Step 2 — Document Verification: Upload or submit all required documents — mark sheets, graduation certificate, CMAT scorecard, category certificate (if applicable), and Maharashtra domicile certificate (for state quota seats).
- Step 3 — Merit List: DTE releases a merit list based on CMAT scores and category. Only candidates on the merit list move to further rounds.
- Step 4 — GD / PI (College-Specific): Top colleges like JBIMS conduct their own Group Discussion and Personal Interview. A high CMAT score alone is not enough — you must perform well in GD/PI too.
- Step 5 — Seat Allotment: DTE releases multiple rounds of seat allotment. You must accept your allotted seat online and report to the institute for document verification and fee payment to confirm admission.
Admission Process at Private Colleges Outside Maharashtra
For private colleges like Great Lakes, GIM, Welingkar, BIMTECH, and KJ Somaiya, you need to apply directly to each college. The typical process is:
- Apply online by submitting your CMAT score and other details on the college’s official website.
- If shortlisted, attend Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI) at the campus or online.
- Final merit list is prepared combining CMAT score, GD/PI performance, academic record, and work experience (if any).
- Candidates on the final list receive admission offers and must pay the seat confirmation fee within the given deadline.
Keep checking the websites of colleges you are targeting from February 2027 onwards. Many private colleges begin CMAT counselling rounds soon after the result, with deadlines that move quickly. Missing a deadline means losing the seat.
CMAT 2027 Preparation Tips
With CMAT 2027 expected in January 2027, you have roughly four to five months from the notification date to prepare well. Here is a practical strategy to maximise your score.
Section-Wise Strategy
- Quantitative Techniques & DI: Focus on speed and accuracy. Practice mental math to reduce time spent on calculations. Cover basics first (percentages, ratio, time-work, geometry), then move to DI sets. Aim to attempt at least 10 DI sets per week.
- Logical Reasoning: This is the most scoring section if you practise regularly. Cover all major puzzle types — seating arrangement, blood relations, coding-decoding — and time yourself strictly. Target 20 LR questions in under 25 minutes.
- Language Comprehension: Read one English editorial or business article daily. Practise timed RC passages. For grammar, revise basic rules — CMAT does not test advanced grammar. Build vocabulary gradually (10 new words daily).
- General Awareness: Read a business newspaper or a monthly current affairs digest. Focus on business news, government policies, and national/international awards. Revise a static GK summary for basic history, polity, and geography. GA cannot be crammed overnight — build it over weeks.
- Innovation & Entrepreneurship: Read regularly about Indian startups and government schemes. Go through the key details of Startup India, Make in India, and Mudra Yojana. CMAT typically asks concept-based and factual questions here — not calculation-heavy — making it one of the easier sections to score in with the right preparation.
Study Plan Approach
- Spend the first 4–6 weeks building concept clarity in QT and LR.
- Take a full-length mock test every week from week 5 onwards.
- Analyse every mock test seriously — your error log is your most important study tool.
- In the last 4 weeks before the exam, increase mock frequency to 2–3 per week and revise weak areas based on your analysis.
- Attempt at least 1–2 previous year CMAT papers (2024, 2025, 2026) under real exam conditions, including a strict 3-hour timer.
Recommended Resources
- QT & DI: Arun Sharma — Quantitative Aptitude for CAT/MBA; RS Aggarwal for basic concepts
- Logical Reasoning: Arun Sharma / Nishit Sinha — Logical Reasoning for CAT
- Language Comprehension: Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis (vocabulary); regular reading of The Hindu or Economic Times
- General Awareness: Monthly GK digest (Pratiyogita Darpan or similar); Manorama Yearbook for static GK
- Innovation & Entrepreneurship: NTA CMAT information bulletin; online articles on India’s startup ecosystem and government schemes
- Mock Tests: iMS, CL, TIME, or free mocks from test prep platforms for CMAT-specific practice
You do not need to prepare all five sections with equal intensity. Know your strengths. If Logical Reasoning is your strongest section, maximise accuracy there while bringing weaker sections up to a baseline. Even a score of 280–300 can give you a 99+ percentile in CMAT given the relatively smaller candidate pool compared to CAT.

The expected CMAT 2027 cutoff for JBIMS is 99.99 percentile or above for General category candidates. In CMAT 2026, the JBIMS cutoff was also at 99.99+ percentile. Maharashtra domicile candidates compete for Home State quota seats, while others apply for All India quota seats — both categories still require very high percentiles.
Ques. Is there any counselling for CMAT 2027?
Ans. There is no single national-level counselling for CMAT. Each college conducts its own admission process — shortlisting, GD, PI, and seat allotment — independently. For Maharashtra state colleges (JBIMS, SIMSREE, PUMBA, etc.), DTE Maharashtra conducts a structured state-level counselling, expected to begin from March 2027. For private colleges like Great Lakes, GIM, and BIMTECH, you must apply directly to the college after your result is declared.
Ques. What is a good score in CMAT 2027?
Ans. A score of 320 or above (99.99 percentile) puts you in contention for JBIMS and SIMSREE. A score of 275–319 (99–99.9 percentile) is strong for most top CMAT colleges. A score of 250–274 (88–95 percentile) works for reputed private colleges like KJ Somaiya, Welingkar, and GIM Goa. Since only around 41,000–54,000 candidates appear each year, a score of 280+ can secure a 99+ percentile in CMAT.
Ques. When will CMAT 2027 registration start?
Ans. CMAT 2027 registration is expected to start in the second week of October 2026 on exams.nta.ac.in/CMAT. In CMAT 2026, registration opened in October 2025 and closed on November 24, 2025, giving candidates about 6–8 weeks to apply. The official CMAT 2027 notification — which will confirm all dates — is expected in October 2026.
Ques. Can final-year students apply for CMAT 2027?
Ans. Yes. Final-year graduation students can apply for CMAT 2027. However, you must complete your bachelor’s degree before taking admission at the college. If you are shortlisted and offered a seat, you will need to submit your final graduation marksheet and certificate by the date the college specifies. Not completing graduation would cancel your admission.
Ques. What is the Innovation and Entrepreneurship section in CMAT?
Ans. The Innovation & Entrepreneurship section is unique to CMAT — no other major MBA entrance exam includes it. It has 20 questions for 80 marks. The section covers concepts of innovation, types of entrepreneurship, India’s startup ecosystem, government schemes like Startup India and Mudra Yojana, venture capital funding stages, famous entrepreneurs, and social entrepreneurship. Most questions are factual or concept-based rather than calculation-heavy, making it a scoring section if you stay updated on business and startup news.
