What is the full form of BOD?

BOD stands for Biological Oxygen Demand. It is a measure of the amount of oxygen required by microorganisms to decompose organic matter present in a water sample.

The BOD test is used to determine the quality of water and the degree of organic pollution in it.
It provides an estimate of the amount of oxygen that would be consumed by microbes if the water sample were allowed to stand for a specified period of time.
A higher BOD indicates higher levels of organic pollution and a lower concentration of dissolved oxygen, which can have negative effects on aquatic life.
Therefore, the full form of BOD is Biological Oxygen Demand.
