The SI unit of energy is the joule (J). Joule (J) is the standard unit of energy in the International System of Units (SI). It is defined as the amount of energy transferred when a force of one newton is applied over a distance of one meter. Joule is used to quantifying various forms of energy, such as thermal, mechanical, electrical, and chemical energy.

How to Calculate Joule?

The formula to calculate joule is: Joules = Newtons x Meters

Where Newtons is the force applied and Meters is the distance moved by the object in the direction of the force.

Another formula to calculate joules is: Joules = Watts x Seconds

Where Watts is the power applied and Seconds is the time for which the power was applied.

Joules can also be calculated as: Joules = Volts x Coulombs

Where Volts is the electric potential difference and Coulombs is the electric charge that passed through the potential difference.

Read the following paragraph and answer the questions that follow.
A p-type or n-type semiconductor can be converted into a p-n junction by doping it with suitable impurity. The motion of majority charge carriers causes diffusion current across the junction while the barrier electric field causes motion of minority carriers for drift current. In case of unbiased diode, the diffusion and drift currents are equal. This equilibrium is disturbed by the biasing batteries. Diodes, therefore, allow currents in one direction. This property of diode is used in making rectifiers.
