IIT JAM 2027 Eligibility Criteria (Before You Apply)

Confirm you meet the IIT JAM 2027 eligibility criteria before you start filling the application form. An application from an ineligible student will be rejected even after fee payment — and the fee will not be refunded. The eligibility criteria below are based on JAM 2026 norms and are expected to be unchanged for JAM 2027.

Each of the 7 JAM test papers has specific subject eligibility requirements. For Physics (PH), you need Physics in your undergraduate degree. For Mathematics (MA), you need Mathematics. For Biotechnology (BT), you need a life sciences or related background. Always verify subject-wise eligibility from the official JAM 2027 Information Brochure before filling the application form.

There is no domicile restriction for IIT JAM — students from any state or union territory of India are eligible to apply.

How to Fill IIT JAM Application Form 2027

The IIT JAM 2027 application form will be available exclusively online on the JOAPS portal when it opens in September 2026. There is no offline application mode. Follow the two-phase process below.

Phase 1: New Registration on JOAPS

1. Visit the official JOAPS portal when it opens (URL will be jam2027.[organising-iit].ac.in — to be activated with the notification) and click “New Registration” or “Enroll”.
2. Enter your name, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID exactly as they appear on your Class 10 certificate — discrepancies cause issues at the admission stage.
3. Verify your email address using the OTP sent to your registered email. Check your spam/junk folder if the OTP does not arrive within 2 minutes.
4. Create a strong password combining letters, numbers, and special characters. Note your Enrolment ID — you will use it for all future logins, admit card download, result checking, and counselling.
5. Save your Enrolment ID and password securely. The JOAPS system does not allow changes to the registered email ID or mobile number after enrolment is complete.

Phase 2: Fill the Application Form

1. Log in to the JOAPS portal using your Enrolment ID and password.
2. Fill in personal details: name, date of birth, gender, category, nationality, and correspondence address.
3. Select your test paper(s): choose one or two papers. The fee changes based on the number of papers selected — confirm your paper combination before proceeding to payment. Not all paper combinations are permitted; refer to the Information Brochure.
4. Fill in academic details: qualifying degree name, university or institute, year of passing or expected year, and percentage or CGPA.
5. Select exam city preferences in order of priority. City allocation is at the discretion of the organising IIT and is subject to availability — providing all available preferences improves your chances.
6. Upload your passport-size photograph and signature in JPG/JPEG format within the specified file size and dimension limits.
7. Review every field before payment — cross-check your name, date of birth, category, paper selection, exam city, and photograph for accuracy.
8. Pay the application fee online via debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI based on your category and number of papers.
9. Download and save your confirmation page / application PDF immediately after payment. Keep a printout — it is needed throughout the admission process.

Note: Submit only one application form. Multiple registrations from the same student will be rejected and the fee will not be refunded under any circumstances. If you want to appear for two test papers, select both within the same application — do not create a second registration.

Documents Required for IIT JAM Application Form 2027

During the IIT JAM 2027 application process, you only need to upload your photograph and signature online. All other documents — degree certificates, marksheets, and category certificates — are required only at the time of admission and are not uploaded at the registration stage. Keep scanned copies of all documents ready before you begin the form.

Note: Upload a recent passport-size photograph taken within the last 6 months, with a plain white background and your face occupying at least 75–80% of the frame. Do not upload selfies, studio-retouched images, photographs with filters, or scanned copies of older IDs — these are rejected during scrutiny and can lead to disqualification of your application.

IIT JAM Application Fee 2027

The IIT JAM 2027 application fee will depend on your category and the number of test papers you select. The fee table below is based on JAM 2026 and is expected to be similar for JAM 2027. The official fee will be confirmed when the organising IIT releases the JAM 2027 notification in September 2026.

Payment is accepted via: Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, UPI. No offline payment mode (cash, cheque, or demand draft) is accepted. The JOAPS portal processes the payment directly — do not use any third-party payment link.

If you change your exam city, paper selection, or category during the correction window, an additional fee of approximately ₹300 per change is typically charged. The exact amount for any correction-related charges will be confirmed in the official JAM 2027 notification.

Note: If your IIT JAM 2027 application fee payment fails, do not retry immediately. Wait 48–72 hours for the amount to be automatically refunded to your account before making a fresh payment attempt. Retrying immediately can result in duplicate deductions and processing delays.

IIT JAM 2027 will offer a correction window after the registration closes — expected in the last week of October 2026 for approximately one week. This window lets you fix limited details in your submitted application. 4. Submit the corrected form and immediately download the revised confirmation page — replace your earlier printout with this updated version.
