WBJEE Counselling 2018- Procedure, Schedule, Registration, Fee

The online process of WBJEE counselling 2018 is expected to begin from June 12, 2018 (tentatively). Candidates need to pay INR 500 to take part in counselling. WBJEE counselling will be held in 3 rounds where the candidates need to fill the choices based on the priority and lock them in the first round itself. The exam is scheduled to be held on Aprill 22, 2018 for which the Admit Card will be released on April 12, 2018

Seats in the first round will be allocated based on candidates’ rank, preferred choices and seat availability. For the remaining rounds, seats will be allocated based on the vacant seats of the previous round. Counselling process for WBJEE and JEE Main will be held together with the minor difference in dates.

WBJEE Counselling 2018 on the basis of JEE Main 2018

The candidates who wish to apply on the basis of their marks obtained in JEE Main 2018, can also participate in WBJEE 2018 counselling process. The schedule followed for such candidates is provided below.:

WBJEE 2018 Round wise Counselling Schedule

  • WBJEE counselling process will comprise of three rounds.
  • Candidates’ online registration will be active for these rounds of WBJEE 2018 Counselling.
  • A fourth-round is conducted in case, the seats are left vacant in the colleges. 

Registration for Counselling

As the initial step, candidates need to register themselves to take part in counselling. After registration, candidates need to fill the choices within stipulated time period and lock them. In case, the choices are not locked, they will automatically be locked after the time period is over.

Round 1


After the choices of registered candidates for e-counselling 2018 are locked, the total number of seats (almost 36000) present with the board will be allotted to such candidates based on their rank and choices. After the seat allotment, candidates need to report to the corresponding reporting centres. For the second round, the list of vacant seats is generated.

In this round, the left-over seats are allotted to un-allocated candidates. The choices are also upgraded for the candidates. The candidates here, need not report to Reporting Centers if they do not want to change their choices.  Just like round 1, the list of vacant seats is generated for the last round.

Eligibility Criteria for second round of counselling

Group–I: Registered candidates who have not got any seat in the first round of counselling.

Group-II: Registered candidates who got a seat in the first round of counselling and visited the reporting center but the allotted seat was cancelled due to non-fulfilment of eligibility criteria.

Group–III: Registered candidates who were allotted a seat in the first round of counselling, reported to the reporting centre, completed admission formalities and also submitted willingness ‘Yes’ for up-gradation in further rounds of counselling.

Group–IV: Candidates who were allotted a seat in the first round of counselling, reported to the reporting centre, completed admission formalities and submitted willingness ‘No’ for up-gradation. The allotted seat for such candidates would be retained in the same category or in the upgraded category.

Non-Eligible for second round of counselling

  • Did not report to RC after seat allotment in first round.
  • Candidates reported but withdrew from RC.
  • Failure to conform the documents.

Round 3


The seat is alloted to un-allocated candidates along with choice upgradation. The candidates here, need not report to Reporting Centers if they do not want to change their choices.

What is the WBJEE 2018 Counselling Procedure?

WBJEE Counselling 2018 would involve centralized computer-based choice filling and seat allotment process. After completion of each round of seat allotment, candidates are required to report for document verification and submission of tuition fee for provisional admission.

The WBJEE counselling procedure is entirely same for both WBJEE qualifiers and JEE main AIR holders. It can be divided broadly into 5 stepsfor a candidate to gain admission in their preferred course and institute. These steps are –

  5. Confirmation and Admission

Step 1: Online Registration

  • WBJEE Counselling 2018 will be conducted online and the first step for the candidate is registration. The candidate needs to visit the official website of WBJEE Counselling 2018 i.e. wbjeeb.nic.in and click on “New Candidate Registration”.
  • The candidate will need to furnish details such as WBJEE Roll Number, Application Form Number, Candidate Name, Date of Birth and a Security Pin. After registration is done successfully, an ID and password will be generated.
  • The candidate is advised to note these login credentials for future use. It may be noted that the candidates will be required to pay an amount of INR 500 to complete the process of WBJEE 2018 counselling registration.

Note: Candidates, must make sure that they enter all the required information correctly and also check twice before completion of registration process. As, once the registration is done, candidates will not be able to make any changes to details like category, PwD status, TFW status, state of domicile, gender, religion etc. Registrations for WBJEE counselling 2018 will be allowed just once at the beginning of the first round.

Step 2: Choice Filling

  • This is the next step of the WBJEE counselling process. The candidates will be required to log into their accounts using the ID and Password generated in the previous step. After this, the candidates can select their choice of participating colleges and courses.
  • Candidates must be careful to lock their final choices before the given dates specified in the table above. The option to edit and submit the final choice will expire on the due date at 5:00 pm and the choices filled so far will be locked automatically. Hence, students are advised to ensure that they have filled their choices carefully.

Step 3: Seat Allotment

After the choice filling process is over, the candidates will be allotted seats based on their ranks and preference. This process will also be carried online and the students will be required to check the seats allocated to them by logging into their accounts.

Step 4: Reporting and Document Verification

  • Those candidates who have been allocated a seat will be required to physically report to the Reporting Centre (RC). This is the next step in the counselling process and is mandatory.
  • Candidates will be required to carry all necessary documents to the reporting centre as the verification of these documents will take place at the RC. The initial admission fee will also have to be paid at this stage.
  • The fee amount for TFW (Tuition Fee Waiver scheme) candidates is INR 4,000 and for University/Government Institute is INR 5,000 and for private institutions, it is INR 20,000.

Key Points to Remember during Choice Filling:

  • It is necessary to understand that while filling the choices during the process, candidates have to make sure that they make the correct selection as the order of selection matters during seat allotment.

  • Candidates are advised to fill as many choices as they can, as there will be no restriction on it.

  • Before filling their choices, candidates can always make sure that they check the WBJEE cutoff to know their chances of entering the participating institutes.

  • Once choices are locked, candidates will not be allowed to make any changes thereafter.

  • Candidates must take a print out of the selected choices after confirming them for future reference.

Step 5: Confirmation and Admission

The final step for the candidates should personally visit the institute that they have been allotted to them for completing admission formalities. In the case where the candidate is unable to report at the specified institute or fails to do so, the provisional admission of such candidate will be withdrawn.

Choice Filling: Important Points

  • The candidates have the liberty to change the seats as many times as they can, but after the choices are locked, one cannot make any changes further.
  • The online portal will reflect only those seats which lies in the WBJEE counselling eligibility criteria of the candidates.
  • The aspirant has the right to make choices in the first round only.
  • The TWF (Tuition-Fee Waiver) have the right to apply for TWF as well as, general seats.

Change of Willingness

  • Candidates who have taken provisional admission in first round can change their willingness from “YES upgradation to “NO upgradation” but not vice-versa after the second round of allotment.
  • To change their willingness, candidates need to report at the same RC where the provisional letter was issued.

To change the willingness:

  • Candidates need to submit the provisional admission letter to the RC.
  • They have to fill and sign for change of option.
  • Recieve a modified letter from RC.

Refund of fee:

  • Candidates needs to report to the same RC from where the provisional letter was issued.
  • As per the rules of the board and refund rule of Ministry of Human Resource, the fee will be refunded.

WBJEE 2018 Reporting Centres

After the seat allocation has been done in WBJEE Counselling 2018, candidates must report in-person at the Reporting Centre (RC) with all required documents. Here, the verification of these documents will take place and the candidate will be offered admission into an institute.

WBJEE 2018 Documents Required 

Candidates will need to physically report at the Reporting Centres upon being allocated a seat. There are some essential documents that they will have to carry along as they will be subject to verification at the Reporting Centre.

The candidates have to mandatorily carry all documents in original, along with one set of photocopy. The list of required documents is given below -
