If you prepare thoroughly for the GK section, it will definitely be a score-booster as it will now account for 15% of the overall weightage of the exam. This will further help you rank better and place you in merit. Also, it is essential for candidates to qualify in the GK section separately, along with the other three sections- Quantitative Analysis, English Comprehension, and Analytical & Logical Reasoning.

The IIFT 2017 is a pen and paper exam. Talking about the IIFT 2016 Exam Pattern, it is of 2 hours in duration with multiple-type questions with 4 choices to choose from. The total number of questions generally range from 115 to 130. The mode of IIFT Exam is in English only.
Till the last year, the GK section carried a weightage of 14% which has now increased to 15% this year. The exam carries 30 GK questions that carry 15 marks out of 100, can get you an edge over the others if you prepare well. Although it requires no special skill to prepare, a thorough read of the daily newspaper, editorials, blogs, etc. can fetch you good marks. However, some candidates are still skeptic about the relevant topics as well as its importance of the section. This year, the IIFT 2017 is scheduled for November 27,2016 for admission to MBA(IB) 2017-19 batch. The last date of submitting duly filled-in form at IIFT office is September 5,2016.

It is important for candidates to take this section as seriously as others. For some, they prepare for IIFT GK section just because they are simultaneously preparing for the CAT 2016 exam. There is no major difference between the preparation strategy for both the exams. However, their main area is focus is CAT Exam only, which is not the right approach.
Another point, with respect to GK in IIFT, is that the exam has a lot of matching the column kind of questions. This, in a way, is a blessing because each answer option has multiple combinations given. So, even if you don’t know the answer to all 4 combinations, there is always the possibility of knowing 1 or 2 of the combinations and getting the answer using elimination.

For most of the candidates, the first question that pops in their head is, “Where to begin from for the GK section?”. Since there is no set syllabus for the GK section, the topics to study becomes a big worry. We suggest the candidates to devote minimum 2 hours of their day to the GK section. We understand that there are other sections to study too and GK is a never-ending subject, but this section is as important as others. You need to carve out time and learn the key events/ dates/personalities etc.
Further, we suggest all the aspiring candidates to not underestimate this section. There are good 25-30 questions from this section, that if attempted well, can increase your score like no other section. According to Prof. S. K. Agarwal, who is an expert on Verbal Ability and IIFT preparation, shares that it’s not only the conventional pattern of GK but also the analytical and current environmental awareness of your surroundings which is needed to crack GK in IIFT 2017. In IIFT 2017 the weightage to General Knowledge & Awareness section would be 14% to 15% and a sectional cut off will also be applied.
