What’s new in BITSAT 2027?

BITSAT has remained largely stable in structure over the last few years, but several important updates have been introduced recently. Let’s read this section quickly to understand the changes.

  • Dual Session Format continues strongly. Candidates can appear in both Session 1 and Session 2, and the best score is considered. (This has become a major advantage for students.)
  • The application fee was increased by ₹100 across all categories in 2026. Female and transgender candidates continue to get a lower fee.
  • Students who reappear for the full Class 12 exam (all subjects) are no longer eligible. Only the latest performance is considered.
  • Branches such as B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering, B.E. Pharmaceutical Engineering, and M.Sc. Semiconductor and Nanoscience have been introduced in recent years.
  • Tuition-Blind Admissions for the top 500 BITSAT rankers was introduced in 2026. Top performers from families with income up to ₹20 lakh can get full tuition fee waiver.

BITSAT 2027 Exam Dates

Based on the pattern followed in recent years (especially the 2026 cycle, where Session 1 was held in mid-April and Session 2 in late May), BITSAT 2027 is expected to be conducted in two sessions in April and May 2027.

A JEE Main aspirant was asking on Reddit, “How different is BITSAT from JEE? BITS a good platform to pursue a master's elsewhere?”

BITSAT is generally more speed-focused than JEE Main, with 130 questions to be attempted in 3 hours, so practice accuracy under time pressure.

  • BITS offers strong academic flexibility, research exposure, and alumni networks that can support applications for master’s programmes abroad.
  • Choose BITS based on your preferred branch, campus, fees, and long-term goals rather than treating it only as an alternative to JEE.

BITSAT vs JEE Main

Parameter JEE Main BITSAT
Exam Focus Conceptual depth and accuracy Speed, time management, and accuracy
Total Questions 75 questions to attempt (out of 90) 130 core questions (+ 12 bonus questions if all 130 are completed)
Duration 3 Hours (180 mins) 3 Hours (180 mins)
Subjects Tested Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Proficiency, and Logical Reasoning
Negative Marking -1 for incorrect, +4 for correct -1 for incorrect, +3 for correct
Difficulty Level Moderate to High depth Easy to moderate depth, but higher speed requirement

BITSAT vs JEE Main Registration & Candidate Statistics

The core selection ratio is remarkably similar, roughly 1 seat per 60–64 applicants, because BITS Pilani offers under 3,000 seats across its three Indian campuses without category/state reservations.

Parameter JEE Main 2026 BITSAT 2026
Total Unique Registered Candidates ~16,04,854 ~1,80,000

Month Focus Area Key Targets & Activities Weekly Goal
Month 1–2 (Sep–Oct 2026) Foundation Building Complete Class 11 NCERT (Physics, Chemistry, Maths/Biology). Basic concept clarity + formula notebook. Start English vocabulary & basic Logical Reasoning. Finish 1–2 chapters per subject daily + 20–30 practice questions
Month 3–4 (Nov–Dec 2026) Class 12 + Application Complete Class 12 NCERT. Solve chapter-wise questions (HC Verma, RD Sharma / NCERT Exemplar, previous year BITSAT questions). Increase speed practice. 40–50 questions per subject + weekly topic tests
Month 5 (Jan 2027) Full Syllabus Revision + Weak Areas Revise entire syllabus once. Identify and strengthen weak topics. Start full-length sectional tests. Daily revision of 2 subjects + 1 sectional mock
Month 6 (Feb 2027) Intensive Practice & Mocks Solve previous 5–7 years' BITSAT papers. Take 2–3 full-length mocks per week. Focus on time management and accuracy. 3 full mocks + detailed analysis
Month 7 (Mar 2027) Advanced Practice + Speed Enhancement Daily full-length mock or previous paper. Focus on high-weightage topics and error log. Practice 12 extra questions strategy. 4–5 full mocks + revision of weak areas
Month 8 (Apr 2027) Final Revision & Exam Simulation Light revision of formulas, short notes, and NCERT highlights. Take mocks in exact exam timing (morning/afternoon slots). Focus on mental fitness and exam temperament. 3–4 mocks + formula revision only

Subject-wise Tips

  • Physics: Focus on numericals and concepts (Mechanics, Electrostatics, Modern Physics, Optics).
  • Chemistry: NCERT is king — especially Organic and Inorganic. Practice reaction mechanisms and exceptions.
  • Mathematics / Biology: Maths needs daily practice (Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Algebra). Biology requires thorough NCERT reading and diagrams.
  • English + Logical Reasoning: Practice daily for 30–45 minutes — these are high-scoring and less time-consuming.

A user on Reddit is asking, “BITSAT is actually harder than JEE Mains this year, and how accurate is that?”

BITSAT is generally considered comparable to JEE Main in syllabus level, but its high speed requirement and 130 questions in 3 hours can make it feel tougher. If JEE Main is not your strong point, you can still target BITSAT by focusing on NCERT concepts, speed, accuracy, and regular mock tests rather than assuming it will automatically be easier.

A user on Quora was asking, “How should the schedule be like if I start studying for BITSAT from now?”

Ans. Start with 6–8 hours of focused study daily, covering Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English/Logical Reasoning. Divide your time between concept revision, timed practice, and mock tests, gradually increasing mock-test frequency as the exam approaches.
