The principles of air conditioning and refrigeration are very similar but have some key differences. Refrigeration keeps the cold air close and air conditioning pushes it away. In Ac from the evaporator, the condenser and compressor have a separate unit but The parts of refrigeration include compressor, condenser & evaporation in one unit

Very Short Answer Questions (1 Mark)

Ques. What is the main design-based difference between air conditioning and refrigeration?

Ans. The main design-based difference between air conditioning and refrigeration is that refrigerators consist of a condenser, compressor, and evaporator as a single unit whereas AC consists of a compressor and condenser as separate units from the evaporator.

Ques. Which fluid is used in the Electrolux refrigerator?

Ans. In the Electrolux refrigerator ammonia, water and hydrogen is used.

Ques. State the main difference between cooling and refrigeration.

Ans. Cooling is the process in which the temperature of the objects are brought down whereas in refrigeration the temperature of any object is down to a lower temperature than its surroundings. Hence it maintains this temperature throughout.

Ques. What is the condition of refrigerant after passing through the expansion or throttle valve, in a vapour compression system?

Ans. After passing through the expansion or throttle valve in a vapour compression system

the condition of the refrigerant is, that a wet vapour is observed.

Ques. What is the air-cooled and water-cooled system?

Ans. An air-cooled system is a refrigeration system used outdoors and related to its surrounding ambient temperatures. In comparison, the water-cooled system is a refrigeration system used indoors. These are 10-15% more efficient than the air-cooled system.

Ques. Which refrigerant is widely used in domestic refrigerators?

Ans. In domestic refrigerators mostly R-12 refrigerant is used.

Ques. Why are ACs and refrigerators measured in tones

Ans. The calculation and measurement of the cooling strength of an AC or refrigerator are not easy. Both of these work on the complex structure of cooling systems. The AC or refrigerator consume a lot of energy and is designed according to specific requirement.

Consequently, to avoid confusion, measurement is done in tones where 1 Tonne stands for the heat required to melt 1 Tonne of ice at 0 degrees Celsius.

Ques. Define air conditioning.

Ans. The term "air conditioning" defines modern technology due to which the state of air is changed through cleaning, dehumidification, cooling, heating, and ventilation. An air conditioner works using a thermodynamic cycle called the refrigeration cycle. The liquid gas evaporates and is cooled with the help of a condenser.

Ques. Define refrigeration.

Ans. Refrigeration is the process of cooling and the technology in the charge of the cooling process is similar to the cooling process of reducing the body's internal energy by removing heat energy. Refrigeration transfers the thermal energy from one place to a place of higher temperatures.

Long Answer Questions (3 Marks)

Ques. State the major basis of differences between air conditioning and refrigeration.

Ans. The major basis of difference are:

  • Circulation System
  • Parts
  • Supply
  • Application
  • Vaporization
  • Thermal energy

Ques. What is the usage of AC and refrigerators?

Ans. AC is a system used to cool down the temperature in an inside space by taking warm air into a system and dispersing cold air.

Uses of refrigerators are

  • To preserve food from spoiling.
  • Keeping vaccines that required temperature less the room temperature
  • For keeping a drinking water bottle
  • For keeping fresh vegetables and fruits
  • Keeping the medicine

Very Long Answer Questions (5 Marks)

Ques. State differences between AC and refrigeration.

Ans. The difference between AC and refrigeration are:

Air Conditioning  Refrigeration
AC takes away the thermal energy to keep the place air cooler Refrigeration transfers the thermal energy to a place of higher temperatures.
AC maintains the temperature of a certain volume of air while maintaining purity and humidity. Refrigeration regulates the temperature of air such as cooling and freezing of products.
Both compressor and condenser are separate units from the evaporator. Both compressor and condenser, are a single unit with an evaporator.
In AC cold air is pushed away from the main unit. In Refrigeration cold air is kept inside its main unit.
In Ac from the evaporator, the condenser and compressor have a separate unit The parts of refrigeration include compressor, condenser & evaporation in one unit
In AC fan is required No fan is required in refrigeration
AC is a special kind of refrigeration used to cool a large area. Refrigeration helps to flow thermal energy against the natural flow of heat.
The in-built chemicals within the unit absorb air into the system The air is supplied to the unit through pipes
