The university was founded in 2006, by the government of Punjab Division, with the vision to serve the nation by creating excellent lawyers, administrators, judicial officers, and inquisitive researchers. The institute campus is spread across 50 Acres, having a Library Building, Sports Complex, Auditorium, Girls and Boys Hostels, Guest House, Health Centre, Community Hall, Stadium, Residences, and Academic-cum-Administrative Block.

Undergraduate Program

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law offers BA LLB (Hons) integrated programme of five-year duration. During the first three years, students study law subjects along with English, Economics, History, Sociology, and Political Science. From the fourth year onwards, students select one of the specializations among Constitutional Law, Business Law, International Law, and Criminal Law.

The Army Institute of Law was founded by the Indian Army in July 1999 initially in Patiala. Later on, it was shifted to Mohali on December 1, 2003, where it was inaugurated by the then President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

CLAT or the Common Law Admission Test is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities for admission in undergraduate and postgraduate law programs in 22 Universities all over India.
