Shubha wanted to buy a refrigerator for her house. She visited a large showroom where refrigerators of different brands, capacities, features and price ranges were displayed. The sales person informed her about the various options available. Shubha compared them on the basis of quality, brand, size and price and then chose the one that best suited her family’s needs and budget. She purchased a refrigerator for ₹ 96,000 with a one year warranty. Within two weeks, the refrigerator stopped cooling properly. Shubha tried to contact the manufacturer several times through e-mails and phone calls but there was no response from their side. Feeling dissatisfied, Shubha decided to file a complaint in an appropriate consumer court. After examining the evidence, the consumer court found the company guilty of supplying a defective product and failing to resolve the complaint within a reasonable time. The court ordered the manufacture to replace the refrigerator with a new one or refund the money along with compensation for the inconvenience caused to Shubha.
