The image formed by a plane mirror is always virtual, erect, and of same size as the object. Image formed by a plane mirror is virtual, i.e., it is formed behind the mirror without the actual intersection of light rays. It is erect, which means up straight. The image is laterally inverted, i.e., it is reversed from left to right.

Characteristics of image formed by a plane mirror:

  1. The image formed is virtual.
  2. It is of the same size as the object.
  3. The image is laterally inverted.
  4. The image is erect.
  5. Distance of image from mirror will be the same as distance of the object from the mirror.

In an experiment with convex lens of focal length f, the screen is fixed at a distance D from the object. A student slowly moves the lens away from the object towards the screen and finds that she is able to form sharp image of the object for two positions of the lens. The distance between these two positions of the lens is d.
