To appear in MHT CET 2027, you must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 with Physics and Chemistry plus Mathematics (PCM) or Biology (PCB), scoring a minimum of 50% aggregate marks — 45% for Maharashtra reserved category students.

MHT CET 2027 eligibility criteria are set by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra. Meeting every condition before you register prevents rejection of your form or disqualification at the counselling stage. This article covers the academic qualification, age limit, domicile rules, and how many times you can attempt the exam.

  • PCM group (Engineering/Technology): Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
  • PCB group (Pharmacy/Agriculture/Biotechnology): Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
  • Minimum aggregate: 50% in qualifying subjects (45% for Maharashtra SC/ST/OBC/VJNT/SBC)
  • Minimum age: 17 years as of December 31, 2027; no upper age limit for engineering or pharmacy
  • Attempts: No restriction — you may appear in MHT CET any number of times
  • Students currently in Class 12 (appearing in 2027 board exams) are also eligible to apply

Academic Qualification: PCM and PCB Groups

You must have passed Class 12 — or be appearing in it — from a recognised board with Physics and Chemistry plus either Mathematics (PCM) or Biology (PCB) to be eligible for MHT CET 2027. Students appearing in their Class 12 board exams in 2027 can register provisionally; final admission is confirmed only after they pass with the required minimum marks.

MHT CET is conducted as two separate papers based on your subject group:

  • PCM Group — for B.E., B.Tech, and related engineering and technology programs. You must have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class 12.
  • PCB Group — for B.Pharma, Pharm.D, B.Sc Agriculture, B.Sc Horticulture, and similar programs. You must have Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in Class 12.

If you studied all four subjects — Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology — you can register for both groups in a single application cycle. The two papers are held on separate days, and each score is used independently for the respective admission process.

The minimum qualifying marks are 50% aggregate in the three relevant subjects (Physics plus Chemistry plus Mathematics or Biology) for General category students and those from outside Maharashtra. Maharashtra reserved category students require 45%.

Students from CBSE, ICSE, or state boards outside Maharashtra are eligible, provided their Class 12 curriculum included the required subjects. Vocational stream students are generally not eligible unless their curriculum is equivalent to the standard academic stream as notified by the conducting body.

Age Limit for MHT CET 2027

The minimum age for MHT CET 2027 is 17 years, meaning you must be born on or before December 31, 2010 to be eligible. There is no upper age limit for either engineering or pharmacy programs under MHT CET.

AICTE removed the upper age cap for engineering admissions in 2017, and the Pharmacy Council of India does not prescribe a maximum age for pharmacy courses. This means gap-year students and those returning to education after a break can appear in MHT CET without any age-related bar.

Course Category Minimum Age Maximum Age
Engineering / Technology (PCM Group) 17 years (born on or before December 31, 2010) No upper limit
Pharmacy / Agriculture (PCB Group) 17 years (born on or before December 31, 2010) No upper limit

Domicile and Nationality Requirements

MHT CET seats are divided into a Maharashtra State quota and an All India quota; your domicile status determines which pool you can compete for.

To claim Maharashtra State quota seats, you must satisfy at least one of the following conditions:

  • You have studied in a recognised institution in Maharashtra for at least five consecutive years immediately before the qualifying examination.
  • Either of your parents holds a Maharashtra domicile certificate (bonafide resident).
  • You belong to a nomadic or denotified tribe of Maharashtra, irrespective of where you studied.

Students from other states can appear in MHT CET and are eligible for All India quota seats. OCI and NRI students may participate under the NRI/OCI quota; specific eligibility conditions for that quota are detailed in the official information brochure released each year by the State CET Cell.

Number of Attempts in MHT CET 2027

There is no cap on the number of times you can appear in MHT CET. Unlike national-level exams that limit attempts to two or three, MHT CET allows you to re-register and retake the exam every year without any penalty or restriction.

Each year’s MHT CET score is valid only for that year’s admission cycle. You cannot carry forward or combine a score from a previous year with a current one. If you appeared in MHT CET in 2025 or 2026 but did not secure a seat of your choice, you are free to take MHT CET 2027 afresh with no restriction on eligibility.

Category-wise Minimum Marks Requirement

The minimum Class 12 aggregate marks required in qualifying subjects vary by category. The table below reflects criteria followed in recent MHT CET cycles and is expected to apply for 2027 as well, subject to the official notification from the State CET Cell.

Category Minimum Aggregate in PCM or PCB Subjects
General (Maharashtra and Outside Maharashtra) 50%
SC / ST / VJNT / OBC / SBC (Maharashtra) 45%
Persons with Disability — PwD (Maharashtra) 45%
General / OBC (Outside Maharashtra) 50%

The percentage is calculated only on Physics, Chemistry, and the third subject (Mathematics or Biology). Subjects outside this combination — such as English, a second language, or an elective — are excluded from the eligibility percentage calculation.

Gap-year students who passed Class 12 in an earlier year are fully eligible provided they meet the marks criteria above. There is no restriction on the year of passing the qualifying examination.
