What is a null point in a potentiometer?

A null point in a potentiometer is known as a balancing point.

  • It is the point on the slide wire on which the deflection in the galvanometer is zero.
  • When the galvanometer detects a current where the deflection is zero, no current flows through the cell.
  • Therefore, zero deflection means no current is flowing through the galvanometer.
