Note: The CD Score is the sum of academic and placement scores. The academic scores are calculated based on state exam cutoffs or all-India entrance exam cutoffs, along with student reviews, NAAC rankings, and agency ratings. The Placement Scores are calculated based on the average package, median package, and the number of students placed from each college.
Ques. Which MBA colleges in Punjab can be targeted with a low percentile?
Ans. Punjab is unusually open at the lower end, because only a handful of its colleges set a national-exam bar at all.
- Scenario 1 - a CAT percentile in the 40s. LPU Jalandhar closes at 40 CAT, which is the lowest published national cutoff among the top fifteen and still buys a college with a NIRF Management rank of 44. Thapar Institute Patiala takes 75 CMAT as an alternative to CAT, and its own NMAT route closes around 194 marks.
- Scenario 2 - a strong CAT percentile. IIM Amritsar closes at 90 CAT and Panjab University at 85 CAT. Those two are the only Punjab colleges where a national percentile in the eighties or nineties is the binding constraint, and Panjab University is also the single best-value seat in the state at 64.93 K.
- Scenario 3 - no CAT score at all. Most of Punjab's private universities run their own tests and publish no closing figure: Chandigarh University uses CUCET, CGC University uses CGCUET, Chitkara uses the Chitkara University Test, and Central University of Punjab admits on CUET PG, closing at 144 marks. Guru Kashi University admits on graduation merit.
- One caveat applies throughout. Punjab has no state management entrance test, so there is no single rank that opens a tier of colleges the way a state CET does elsewhere. Each college's own route has to be checked individually.
Ques. What were the previous-year GD topics at Punjab MBA colleges?
Ans. No Punjab MBA college publishes its past group-discussion topics, so the honest answer is the format rather than a topic list. Three facts shape the selection stage.
- IIM Amritsar runs no group discussion and no written test. Its process is a personal interview alone, with the shortlist built 50% on the CAT score and 50% on profile, and the final merit weighted 70:30 between the composite score and the interview.
- Thapar Institute runs a written ability test and a personal interview, and publishes no topics for either.
- Chitkara University and Guru Kashi University run a GD and PI after shortlisting, again with no topics published.
Several of the larger colleges have no group stage whatever. Central University of Punjab admits on CUET PG alone, GNDU runs its own GMET followed by counselling, and Khalsa College Amritsar admits on merit. A candidate should confirm with the college which rounds apply before preparing for one that does not exist.
Ques. How should a candidate prepare for the selection rounds in Punjab?
Ans. Because the rounds differ so much by college, preparation is best organised around the route rather than the state.
- For IIM Amritsar, prepare the profile and the interview. With no written round and no group discussion, half the shortlist weight sits on academics and work experience, and the interview alone carries 30% of the final merit.
- For Thapar, practise writing to the clock. The written ability test precedes the interview and the panel will have it in front of them.
- For the university-test colleges, treat the test as the whole game. CUCET, CGCUET and the Chitkara University Test are the binding constraint at Chandigarh University, CGC University and Chitkara, and each runs in multiple phases through the year, so an early attempt leaves room for a second.
- For Central University of Punjab, CUET PG is the only route. Its MBA Agribusiness closes at 144 marks, and there is no interview to recover a weak score.
- Check which test each college actually accepts. Across Punjab's 191 MBA colleges, 46 accept CAT, 36 MAT, 34 CMAT, 16 XAT and 7 GMAT — so a candidate holding only one of those has a narrower field than the headline count suggests.
Ques. What is the MBA admission procedure in Punjab?
Ans. Punjab runs no state management entrance test and no centralised MBA counselling, so admission is college by college through one of three routes.
- The national-exam route. IIM Amritsar admits on CAT alone, with a 90 percentile General cutoff, a profile-weighted shortlist and a personal interview. Thapar Institute takes CAT, CMAT at 75 or NMAT. LPU accepts CAT from 40 percentile alongside its own LPUNEST. Across the state CAT is accepted by 46 colleges, MAT by 36, CMAT by 34, XAT by 16 and GMAT by 7.
- The university-test route. Most of Punjab's private universities run their own entrance: CUCET at Chandigarh University, CGCUET at CGC University, the Chitkara University Test at Chitkara and LPUNEST at LPU. Panjab University admits its MBA on CAT through its own portal, and Central University of Punjab on CUET PG.
- The management-quota route. CGC Landran reserves 33.33% of its seats for a management quota and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University reserves 33.3%, while Central University of Punjab and Saraswati Group Mohali carry a management-quota line on their fee pages. It is worth being precise about what this waives: it waives the counselling queue, not the test. Collegedunia's own listing article describes LPU, Chandigarh University and RIMT University as offering direct admission where an entrance exam may not be compulsory, but each of those three colleges states the opposite on its own page - Chandigarh University says plainly that direct admission is not available for the MBA and that CUCET is required, LPU publishes a 40 percentile CAT cutoff, and RIMT states that candidates must qualify CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT or NMAT. Confirm in writing with the college before paying anything.

| CGC Landran Mohali | 6.73 Lakh | - | - | 40 - 70 percentile (JEE Main 2026) |
| GNDU Amritsar | 6.45 Lakh | - | - | - |
Ques. Which are the top JEE Main colleges in Punjab?
Ans. Punjab runs no separate state engineering entrance, so JEE Main is the single widest route in: 83 of the state's 162 engineering colleges accept it, against 5 that go through JAC Chandigarh, 3 that take CUET and exactly 1 that takes JEE Advanced.
- The channels split three ways. IIT Ropar admits on JEE Advanced alone, closing Computer Science at an All India Rank of 2,512 in 2025, with its branch range running out to 14,480. NIT Jalandhar, PEC Chandigarh and Central University of Punjab admit on a JEE Main rank through JoSAA and CSAB; PEC's Computer Science and Data Sciences seats close between 5,000 and 15,000.
- JAC Chandigarh is a separate joint counselling for the Chandigarh institutions, and it publishes JEE Main All India Ranks against Home State, Other State and All India quotas. In its 2026 Round 3 General list, UIET closed Computer Science at 49,335 in the All India quota, while CCET closed at 1,22,049 in the Home State quota and 61,186 in the Other State quota. It is worth knowing that CCET's home-state quota is a Chandigarh quota, so Punjab candidates compete in its other-state pool.
- Punjab's own state counselling, run by IKG Punjab Technical University, allots seats at the state's private colleges on a JEE Main rank, with CGC Landran closing between the 40th and 70th percentile depending on branch. Thapar runs its own merit list on a JEE Main percentile, closing Computer Science around 95, while LPU, Chandigarh University, Chitkara and CGC University each admit on their own test.
Ques. Which engineering colleges in Punjab are reachable at a JEE Main rank of 20,000 to 80,000?
Ans. This band is where a government-fee seat is still within reach, and the fee spread inside it is the widest on the page.

The contrast worth drawing is between UIET Chandigarh and Thapar Institute. Both are open to a candidate in this band, and Thapar charges five times what UIET does, at 26.32 Lakh against 5.23 Lakh. What the fee buys is a higher median and a higher ceiling: Thapar reports 10.00 LPA and a 55.00 LPA top offer against UIET's 24.73 LPA highest. Central University of Punjab is the outlier on price at 2.56 Lakh for the full four-year degree.
Ques. Which engineering colleges in Punjab are reachable beyond a JEE Main rank of 80,000?
Ans. Beyond 80,000 the government options narrow to one and the private universities take over, but the cheapest seat in this band is still a government one.

CCET Chandigarh is the standout for value here: 3.04 Lakh for a four-year BE with a 32.00 LPA top offer, reachable at a Home State rank of 1,22,049. Punjab candidates compete in its Other State pool instead, which closes considerably earlier at 61,186. Beyond the JAC colleges, most of what remains in this band admits on a university test rather than a rank, so the JEE Main figure stops being the constraint.
Ques. Which engineering colleges in Punjab offer direct admission?
Ans. Punjab's private universities fill a management or institutional quota outside centralised counselling, and Collegedunia names several explicitly.
- LPU Jalandhar offers direct admission to selected programmes for candidates with high Class 12 scores, without requiring LPUNEST.
- Guru Kashi University Bathinda, SBBS University Jalandhar and CT University Ludhiana admit to BTech on Class 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics marks.
- CGC University Mohali and Desh Bhagat University Gobindgarh fill management and institutional-quota seats without a national entrance score.
- Ludhiana Group of Colleges states its BTech eligibility as JEE Main or direct admission.
Three colleges on this page say the opposite plainly, and all three are worth knowing. IIT Ropar states that all BTech admission is through JoSAA on a JEE Advanced rank and that no separate institutional counselling or management quota exists. Thapar Institute states it has no management quota, no NRI-quota manipulation and no capitation-fee mechanism. PEC Chandigarh states there is no direct admission or management quota for its BTech.
Ques. Which are the cheapest government and private engineering colleges in Punjab?
Ans. The gap between the two is narrow at the bottom, because Punjab's cheapest government seats are not as cheap as other states' and its cheapest private seats are not as dear.
Cheapest government option - Central University of Punjab Bathinda
- Fees: 2.56 Lakh for the full four-year BTech
- Type: Central University established by an Act of Parliament, NAAC A+, founded 2009
- Admission: JEE Main rank through JoSAA and CSAB counselling
Cheapest private option - DBFGI Moga
- Fees: 2.40 Lakh for the full four-year BTech, the cheapest figure in the state
- Type: private institute, NAAC B
- Admission: JEE Main rank through IKGPTU counselling, with a management quota alongside
Among the fifteen colleges above the cheapest entries are Central University of Punjab at 2.56 Lakh, CCET Chandigarh at 3.04 Lakh and SLIET Sangrur at 4.68 Lakh, all three of them government or centrally funded. Surya School of Engineering and Technology Patiala matches DBFGI exactly at 2.40 Lakh.

Ques. What is the law admission process in Punjab?
Ans. Punjab runs no state law entrance test. There is no Punjab equivalent of TG LAWCET or MH CET Law, which makes the admission route unusual and worth setting out carefully.
- Punjab Law Admissions, the centralised merit route. The Punjab Government runs a centralised online counselling, administered by GNDU Amritsar at punjablawadmissions.gndu.ac.in, covering the three-year LLB and the BA, B.Com and BBA integrated degrees. It is counselling on qualifying-exam merit, not an exam. Its 2026 seat matrix names 43 institutions, with Punjabi University Patiala affiliating 23 of them, GNDU 11 and Panjab University 6.
- The PU LLB entrance. Panjab University runs its own written test for its Department of Laws, PUSSGRC Hoshiarpur, its Muktsar regional centre and University Institute of Laws Ludhiana. It sits outside both the Punjab counselling and the national exams.
- AIL LET, and a correction worth making. AIL Mohali does not admit through CLAT. It runs its own Law Entrance Test, and its seat structure is the headline eligibility fact: of 120 BA LLB seats, 24 go to Punjab-resident civil candidates through the state counselling, while 96 are filled on the AIL test, of which 86 are reserved for Army wards, 1 for Navy, 3 for Air Force and 6 are open all-India General. Of 60 B.Com LLB seats, 12 go through counselling and 48 through the test, 45 of them Army wards.
- The national and university routes. CLAT reaches exactly one college among these fifteen, Amity University Mohali. LPU admits on LSAT India, Chandigarh University on CUCET and CGC University on CGCUET. Guru Kashi University and Global Group of Institutes admit on graduation merit with no test at all.

Ques. Which are the cheapest government and private law colleges in Punjab?
Ans. Law is the cheapest stream on this page, and the two cheapest seats are both attached to Panjab University.
Cheapest government option - Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh
- Fees: INR 45.35 K for the full three-year LLB
- Type: constituent department of a state university, founded 1889, NAAC A++, 300 LLB seats
- Admission: graduation with 45% plus the PU LLB entrance test
Cheapest private option - KCL Institute of Laws Jalandhar
- Fees: INR 48.06 K for the full three-year LLB
- Type: private self-financing college affiliated to GNDU, founded 2005, approved by the Bar Council of India
- Admission: through Punjab Law Admissions counselling on graduation merit
Sri Guru Teg Bahadur State University of Law at Tarn Taran follows at INR 60.18 K. It is Punjab's state law university, and unlike the health-sciences universities elsewhere in this article it teaches its own LLB rather than only affiliating others, so it belongs in a cheapest list. GNDU's Jalandhar regional campus is next at INR 72.63 K, roughly half what the Amritsar parent charges for the same degree.
Ques. What is the ROI of the top law college in Punjab?
Ans. Only three Punjab law colleges publish a traceable median, and the cheapest of the three returns the most.
- Panjab University Chandigarh has the best return at 190.48%. Its NIRF 2026 Law filing reports a median of 3.60 LPA for the three-year LLB against a total fee of INR 1.89 Lakh. That filing covers the university as a whole and carries no separate breakout for the Department of Laws or the regional centres, so the figure sits on the parent row alone.
- LPU Jalandhar is next at 160.78%, on a median of 8.20 LPA from its NIRF 2025 Law filing against a fee of INR 5.10 Lakh. It is also the only Punjab law college with a traceable law-specific highest package, at 23.70 LPA, and the state's best-placed on Collegedunia at 19 of 200 and on NIRF Law at 26 of 40.
- AIL Mohali returns 42.17%, on a median of 6.30 LPA from its NIRF 2025 Law filing against the state's highest law fee of INR 14.94 Lakh. It is nevertheless the most broadly ranked law college in Punjab, placed by five separate agencies, and the only one India Today and The Week rank at all.
- The remaining twelve colleges publish no NIRF Law filing and no law-specific placement report, so they carry a dash and are absent from the return calculation entirely. NIRF Law ranks only the top forty institutions nationally, and LPU and AIL are the only two Punjab colleges in that set.
Top-Ranked Law Colleges in Punjab by Agencies
Eleven of the fifteen law colleges above carry a rank from at least one agency, and those eleven are listed here. AIL Mohali is the most broadly ranked, placed by five agencies at 22 of 200 on Collegedunia, 6 of 50 among private colleges on IIRF, 37 of 40 on NIRF Law 2025, 16 of 75 on India Today and 11 of 59 on The Week. LPU Jalandhar leads on Collegedunia at 19 of 200.
| College Name | Collegedunia Law | IIRF Law | NIRF Law | NAAC |

Law Colleges in Punjab: Placement
LPU Jalandhar records the highest median of the three colleges that publish one, at 8.20 LPA, ahead of AIL Mohali at 6.30 LPA and Panjab University at 3.60 LPA. On return the order inverts: Panjab University leads at 190.48% on a fee of INR 1.89 Lakh, LPU follows at 160.78%, and AIL returns 42.17% on the state's highest law fee. The twelve colleges with no published median follow at the end.

Ques. What is the eligibility criteria for NEET UG in Punjab?
Ans. NEET UG eligibility is set nationally, and Punjab adds a domicile requirement for the 85% state quota.
- Age: at least 17 years old as on 31 December of the admission year, with no upper age limit and no cap on attempts.
- Qualifying exam: a pass in Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English as compulsory subjects.
- Class 12 aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology: 50% for General and Unreserved candidates, 40% for OBC, SC and ST candidates, and 45% for General-PwD candidates.
- NEET qualifying percentile: the 50th percentile for Unreserved and EWS candidates and the 40th percentile for OBC, SC and ST candidates.
- Nationality: Indian citizens, NRIs, Overseas Citizens of India, Persons of Indian Origin and foreign nationals may all appear.
Punjab domicile. The 85% state quota requires Punjab residence evidenced by an affidavit under the state's rules, and candidates who do not qualify compete in the 15% All India Quota instead. AIIMS Bathinda is outside the state quota entirely, being a central institution counselled wholly through the MCC, and GMCH Chandigarh runs its own Union Territory domicile pool.
Candidates admitted from the 2025-26 batch onward are also bound by Punjab's service bond, set at 20 Lakh.
Ques. Is direct MBBS admission without NEET possible in Punjab?
Ans. No. There is no route to an MBBS seat in Punjab without a valid qualifying NEET UG score, in a government college, a private college or a management or NRI seat.
- Section 14 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 makes NEET the single uniform entrance examination for undergraduate medical admission in every institution governed by the Act, and NEET qualification is a precondition for inclusion in any merit list, state or management.
- The common misunderstanding concerns the management and NRI quotas. Those are fee categories, not exam exemptions. Baba Farid University builds the management and NRI merit lists from NEET ranks just as it builds the state-quota list, so a candidate who has not qualified NEET cannot enter any of them.
Ques. What is the management-quota fee range for MBBS in Punjab?
Ans. Punjab fixes a single statewide schedule by category through its Department of Medical Education and Research, revised annually with a 5% escalation. For 2026-27 the full-course figures are:
- Government college, government quota: 10.83 Lakh for the full course, built from 2.02 Lakh in year one rising to 2.68 Lakh in year four, with a lower fifth year because the internship year carries no tuition.
- Private college, government quota: 25.22 Lakh, covering 50% of a private college's seats.
- Private college, management quota: 64.71 Lakh, covering 35% of the seats.
- Private college, NRI quota: USD 1,10,000 for the course, covering the remaining 15%.
The figures above sit alongside the 2024-25 schedule, which was 9.50 Lakh, 22.54 Lakh and 58.02 Lakh for the same three rupee categories after a 5% hike notified on 10 August 2024. That is why Punjab's government colleges cluster so tightly between 8.70 Lakh and 9.98 Lakh: they are not four different fee levels but one schedule carried from three different revision years.
Two points are worth holding on to. There is no deemed-university schedule in Punjab, because the state has no deemed medical university. And the government colleges carry no management or NRI quota at all, so a candidate comparing 9.98 Lakh at GMC Amritsar against 83.36 Lakh at Adesh University is comparing a government-quota seat against a management one, not two seats of the same kind.
Ques. What is the MBBS admission procedure in Punjab?
Ans. Two counsellings run in parallel, and a candidate who wants both must register for both.
- The 15% All India Quota is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee at mcc.nic.in on the NEET All India Rank. It covers the seats Punjab's government colleges surrender to the national pool, and it covers AIIMS Bathinda entirely.
- The 85% state quota is conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot at bfuhs.ac.in on a Punjab state merit rank derived from NEET. Its remit is wide: it runs not only the government quota but the management, NRI and minority quotas at the private colleges too. A private college's seats split 50% state quota, 35% management and 15% NRI.
- Counselling runs with the NRI round first, then a first round, a second centralised round, a mop-up round and a special stray round. GMCH Chandigarh sits outside this entirely and runs its own Union Territory domicile pool.
- One point worth knowing when reading cutoffs anywhere: Punjab's special stray round closed in 2025 at ranks between 1.2 and 2.6 lakh, and those are not General-category cutoffs. The figures below are regular-round closing ranks.
Ques. What is the placement scenario for MBBS graduates in Punjab?
Ans. MBBS is not a campus-placement degree, which is why no placement or return table appears in this section and why the Overall Score rather than a package drives the ranking above.
- An MBBS graduate completes a compulsory rotating internship of one year, paid at 22,000 a month in Punjab's government colleges after a hike announced in July 2025, up from 15,000. AIIMS Bathinda pays the central rate of 23,500 and GMCH Chandigarh a Union Territory rate of 15,000 to 18,000. Punjab's private colleges set their own rates and most publish none; DMCH Ludhiana is the exception at 15,000.
- After the internship the usual paths are a postgraduate seat through NEET PG, a state government service post, a junior residency, or private practice. The larger colleges have a structural advantage in clinical exposure: DMCH Ludhiana is attached to a 1,326-bed hospital, GGSMCH Faridkot to 1,275 beds, Rajindra Hospital at Patiala to 1,130 and Guru Nanak Dev Hospital at Amritsar to 1,061. Candidates from the 2025-26 batch are also bound by Punjab's 20 Lakh service bond.
NEET Cutoff for Top MBBS Colleges in Punjab
GMCH Chandigarh holds the toughest entry of any college here, closing its 2025 All India Quota list at rank 690, with AIIMS Bathinda next at 1,798 on the same stream. Among the Punjab state-quota colleges the order runs from 35,470 at BRASIMS Mohali to 1,17,836 at Adesh University Bathinda. The four-year trend has loosened rather than tightened: GMCP Patiala has moved from 8,528 in 2022 to 42,989 in 2025.
