Which Exam Should You Take?

For most serious MBA aspirants, the practical answer is both. CAT 2026 and XAT 2027 are held 6–8 weeks apart and preparation overlaps significantly across QA, Verbal, and Logical Reasoning. The only additional investment for XAT is the Decision Making section and GK.

• Target IIMs: CAT 2026 is mandatory whereas XAT scores are not accepted by any IIM.
• Target XLRI Jamshedpur (BM or HRM): XAT 2027 is the only route and CAT scores are not accepted by XLRI.
• Strong in analytical case-solving: XAT’s Decision Making section rewards structured, scenario-based thinking. If this is a strength, candidates XAT score may outperform their CAT score.
• Work experience of 1–3 years: XLRI’s admission process values experience more explicitly than most IIMs and XAT should be a clear priority.
