Film Making Summary
This essay is divided into nine parts including the introduction. Through these parts, Bergman tried to explain the art of filmmaking and how the film can touch the hearts of the audiences. The salient features of Bergman’s films are their vibrant colours and the central subject of the film as he mostly made films about dysfunctional families. Hence, those films also portray a deep understanding of the human psyche.
- After the general introduction, there is a subtitle- “Childhood Foretells Future”.Here the author himself started explaining how his childhood memories had created his interest in film-making. In this part, a great visual is created by the author’s words about his childhood days.
- The title of the next segment is “Split Second Impression”. In this part, the director tried to explain how initially the film seems to be a vague idea and how second by second it starts to make sense.
- The next segment of this essay is called- “The Rhythm of a Film”, where the author mentions how a film has its own rhythm to be created. There are times when it does not match the creator’s imagination, yet claims its own way.
- In the next segment called- “Film and Literature”, he tried to explain how a film, created based on a specific pre-written novel, can be way more different from its origin.
- In the next part, the author mentioned and talked about the people who have somehow inspired him to make films.
- The next part is called “The Tightropes of Filmmaking”, which mentions how tough it is to survive on this film line, as if even one of the movies does not do well, the director will be forgotten very soon.
- In the next segment- “ Cathedral Building”, the author has mentioned how in these present days, art has taken a back seat while the artist’s ego and self-centred nature took the front seat.
